LED light up pick-ups

The Delano Custom Shop has done some.

FWIW, by definition, all LEDs light up.
 
I wonder how they do that. Surely the LED's on the outside interfere/ occupy the same space as the coil?

If i found out, i'd love to do this

Imagine that under that cover there are pole pieces sticking up under each string. The LEDs are placed between the pole pieces in the "gaps" between the top of the pickup and the cover.

The LEDs used are likely of the surface mount variety. Here is an example:

They really would have no problem sitting a few of these on top of the pickup, as they take up about as much space and height as a pole piece.

Alright. I see with that pic. Makes sense now. I was thinkin cos it was a covered pickups, the poles were flat up against the edge, so the pole would be closer to the strings.
