Left-handed Short Scale Bass options?

New member here. I'm considering getting my first bass guitar for home use only. No gigging. Simply to add bass-lines to some melodies I've written and study harmony.
I definitely want short scale. And it has to be lefty. The two options I've found are:

Ibanez Mikro Bass
Pros: brand name, very popular. 28.6" scale, ergonomic and lighter in weight. Price is $199 new, about $230 with case.
Cons: poplar is not considered a "tone" wood, more of a heavy metal bass? (not sure if this is true)

or Rondo SX Ursa 3 JR
Pros: made from Ash or Alder wood (supposedly more of a tone wood than poplar), 30" scale.
Cons: off brand, slightly more pricey ($270 new, $360 with case)

In either case I'd be open to upgrading the tuners, the bridge, electronics, et cetera as time goes on. And I have a great guitar shop small business owner/luthier nearby who can do all the initial setup, fretwork, and any repairs or adjustments down the road.

I didn't know about the Sire U5 Marcus Miller Short Scale. Thanks. That may be something I could upgrade to after I've been playing for half a year or so. I was also looking at the Eastwood Warren Ellis Bass in lefty, but that's even pricier than the Marcus Miller.

While I'm not exactly thrilled about the 28.6" scale (which, being less than 30", is what's known as sub short scale), and I'm not happy about the many color choices we have (yes, I'm left handed, too) in their lefty Mikro lineup - I'm used to that nonsense by now. There's a Mikro Club here; you might want to check it out. Mikro owners seem to like them, and Ibanez makes good instruments. So, yeah, it would be a good choice. And... welcome to Talk Bass..
