Its cool to find out who else is a lefty, some pretty cool people are lefties. Bill Clinton, George H Bush, Ben Franklin, Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Henry Ford, Dave Barry, Jay Leno, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Sir Paul, MC Escher, Michaelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael (the artists, not the turtles), Tim Allen, Dan Aykroyd, Charlie Chaplin, Kermit the Frog, Harpo Marx, Jerry Seinfeld, and everyone else on this cool site. And not to mention me and JMX.

Wait a minute!

I'm not so sure the poll results accurately reflect the bass-playing population. The poll shows that, of those who responded, nearly 27% are left-handed.

This is way higher than the general population - where only about 7% are southpaws.

Perhaps the lefties out there are readily choosing to respond, while the righties are often blowing it off - skewing the results.

I'm a sports fan and I like to play sports in the backyard with my kids.

I noticed that I can catch a football (American football that is) pretty well with only my left hand. My right hand is not so coordinated.

I'm thinking that this is a result of fretting the bass with my left hand, causing increased coordination in the hand (especially the pinky).

Anyway, maybe American football teams should have their receivers learn how to play both right-handed and left-handed basses to increase their pass-catching facility!
