I was visiting a friend in Florida last week, he plays guitar and bass and is left-handed. I was playing his bass and flipped it over to play it right-handed, with the strings reversed.. G-D-A-E, high to low. Man, that was fun as hell! I played the normal patterns and they all sounded way out there. Definitely a cool experiment if you've never done it.

Is there any advantage to playing like Jimmy Haslip? He is a right hander who plays a left handed six tuned "backwards". In other words he plays a left handed bass, but it is still strung like a right handed bass. In some interviews, he says he can play things like this that he can play otherwise. Has any one else tried this?

I am a lefty who plays lefty basses with normal EADG tuning. I have tried to play right-handed, but have found it impossible.

I am thinking of assembling a team of left-handed bass and guitar players and storming some guitar factorys, and threating to kill all the staff unless all guitars and basses are made lefty as well as right-handed. The organisation will be called FFLGB. Fighting For Lefty Guitars and Basses. You don't think that is too extreme do you ? :D :p

i'm left handed w/ everything except bass... and shooting, but i don't do that... i figured that when you start playing, you pretty much are clumsy no matter how you do it, so why not save the inconvienience later and conform to the accepted standard?
that was my reasoning... so i can walk into a store and play 99% of their basses without a problem

i'm a righty, i play righty. standard tuning EADG. my friend/durmmer, whom i've been playing with for the past 5 years or so. is lefty and plays lefty. i've been with him for so long that right handed drum sets look weird to me. its a pain in the ass for him when he plays some one elses set. though its easier to switch a set than a bass. also, Greta Brinkman, who plays bass for Moby, plays lefty with upside down tuning. "Bass Player" Nov. 2001

looking at a lefty bass or guitar always makes me cringe. sorry if you're lefty.

Born lefty, play righty w/standard tuning. I am, however, flipping the string order on my Warr Guitar from righty to lefty to make two hands on the same fingerboard a little easier.

I play drumset lefty...

Fire a pistol lefty, but shoot a rifle righty...

Bat lefty, fire a bow righty...

Being a lefty can be weird sometimes...
