Not buying the one-piece body stuff. Looks like it is what he says it is --a US Fender parts bass-- but I'm not sure about the tuners. Ask the seller to remove one of them and see if there are two pilot holes to fit the new AMStd tuners. If that's there, you're all good.
If you ever sell, dislose that it didn't come from Fender in one case. That should satisfy the ladies with the "must all come from Fendah" fetish.

I just changed the Pup and pick guard on my MIA P.......does that mean it's no longer a Fender MIA P ?
Yes, I don't think they're trying to rip anybody off and I'm assuming the parts are what he says although it's a bit vague. But my question is whether you can call it a USA Fender if you bought genuine parts (except for tuners, pups etc. which he listed) and assembled it yourself.
In this case though it seems like the seller assembled the whole bass himself which is why I'm asking
IMHO, yes as long as they are a USA neck and Body and it's disclosed. For the price, if I was in the market, I'd try and talk him down to $700 and buy it.
The premise that these are US parts bought separately and assembled instead of starting from a whole bass and making modifications doesn't make much math sense. That would be the more expensive route. If someone were trying to be deceitful they would have gone with CS60 pickups instead of the Geezer's, and Fender tuners instead as well.
Yes, I'd call it a USA Fender Precision Bass. All Fender basses are parts basses anyway, so what does it matter who turned the screws? It would be misleading to call it an American Standard, though.

If you are distinguishing between a Mexican and US parts basses, then you have too much time on your hands or not enough common sense.

It's got string thru , ( MIM's don't ) it's a parts bass , but it's still a Fender body , neck . Maybe the pick guard , tuners are aftermarket ( pups are as he noted ) but I remember in the 70's / 80's that almost everyone replaced the Fender bridge with a Badass, but it was still a Fender . For that price it was a good deal

An American Fender is something that Fender produces in America; usually under one of the standard Fender models but also as a custom build.
Some random dude put this bass together using American parts - it is not an American Fender bass; it is an American Random Dude bass.
If you want an American Random Dude bass, then buy it - if you want an American Fender, then take this money (the same amount of money) and buy a second hand Fender American Standard bass.

Warmoth is different, in that they build parts for the buyers to assemble themselves or have someone else assemble. They do not assembly themselves, tho they finish if you like. You get high quality wood and fit, and from there your skills either keep it there or take it down. Fender, OTOH, sells completes if that's what you're into (I am, on occasion).
Even so, it's kinda funny, really. TB goes thru this time and again.
I do get the resale value thing with a bass that came from the factory with the same body and neck, but for some reason I think the Fender brand has taken it way beyond that. We already know from Fender's continued success over the years that it doesn't take a genius to assemble one (tho it may have taken a genius to design it). Frankly, I'd rather build a replica of, say, Billy Sheehan's wife bass (without the wear and stickers) or a Tractor Bass from the available USA Fender parts than buy a reissue of the same straight from Corona, even if it cost me more money (and it always does). Especially if I could get the finish I wanted that way. But that's just me.
