Leland Sklar: any recommendations?

+1 about the Judith Owen listening room shows. I was lucky to see them twice and it was a real treat. Judith's album Ebb and Flow is worth listening to for sure. The songs are great. Bass playing is superb!

Thread resurrection. Just heard Lee last night with Invalid Link Removed So inspiring to see the master at close range in an intimate venue. He was playing a stock Warwick(mandofrets) thru his Euphonic Audio rig.
They have 4 more shows of this small club tour and i'm pretty sure they are all free .... Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
This thread helped me sort thru his huge discography and i was wondering if anyone knows of any good transcriptions of his work ?
Thanks ... J

Came home to find a surprise package in the mail...a signed copy of Judith Owens' CD. Definitely a good listen and some good Sklar work there! But the best part was also a copy of Bass Player magazine with Lee's autograph on the title page of his article!! It's great to have such good friends!!!

"Play guitar and sing" is what I used to do 20 years ago, but in retrospect, I was never happy or comfortable with my role as the center of attention.

I guess being a bass player better suits my personality in that I always prefer being in a supportive role out of the spotlight to being the "main attraction".

That's why I admire guys like Lee Sklar, who always knows how to support the musical context at hand with rock-solid grooves and tastefully melodic lines without the need to draw attention to himself.

My kind of bass player!

Case in point... Check out the Phil Collins video for "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven." At the 5 minute mark you finally get a good shot of Lee and he's wearing a black T-shirt with block lettering "LEAVE ME ALONE." LOL. Stay tuned for a pic of another case in point. Gotta convert a film photo to digital....

Another case in point....Here's a couple of pics from NAMM Jan 1999 when Lee, Roger Sadowsky and Tony Levin were bugging me and my buddy for our autographs... Note Lee's decreasing interest in being photographed! To be honest, I think the pic of my buddy with them was first and Lee didn't even know what was up and then after we got his attention, Lee turned for the camera with me. And if you look at "theschnitt"'s post on page 3 of this thread, he has a link to a Lee interview from a 1999 NAMM interview and it looks like it's the same day as my pics. Small world!
