Lisa Loeb, the album is called Firecracker and the song is "I Do". It's the leadoff track and Mr. Sklar's playing and tone are straight from heaven.
I had no idea that was Leland. Totally dig Lisa's whole thing, and that bass track is PERFECT IMO!

And somebody alreadly mentioned The Section, definitely check them out if you can find them. They actually released three albums, I've been lucky enough to track down two of them on vinyl. I guess fusion is the best way to describe it, but some of the cuts on the "Fork It Over" album serve up healthy portions of funk too.
Sklar also throws down a solo bass track on the "Forward Motion" album![]()

Thanks. Is that the Frankenbass?
love love loved that bass line!
I'm pretty sure that was Bob Glaub, but could be wrong. It's been a while on that tune. I know it was Porcaro on drums... GREAT drum track.
Yes indeed. Charvel body, '62 P bass neck shaved down to Jazz bass dimensions, early EMG P PUPs reversed, BA bridge.
That reminds me, I need to mention Leland Sklar's Frankenbass over in the "What Signature bass would you like to see manufactured?" thread!
Toto's "falling in between live" double album and dvd gives a good exemple of Mr Sklar's qualities...it's funny to see how Lee plays the lines and the tunes originally played by another great bassist, Mike Porcaro...
"How Sweet It Is to be Loved by You" is another James Taylor tune with a great Lee Sklar bass line.
