Les claypool is very sloppy.......which is very cool.

Yeah, I like his music, but the recordings of his live solos I've heard aren't so hot. Kind of forced, not interesting, and they feel like they're gonna fall apart. And keep him off the fretless. Other than that I like him, though don't really wish to play much of his music- I want to learn how to slap some day, but I'm more into Marcus Miller's and Bootsy's stylings for that.

Basicly, it was a show that had the whole "jam band" type show. They had basic chord progressions that they fallowed, but there was a keyboard player who was there to hold down the rythm. They'd all start with a rythm, one would take a medolic leave, return to the basic rythm, and then another would take a medolic leave.

Also, bucket head wasn't a special guest. It was more like they were both "just there" neither was a guest of either. Over half the crowd was there for buckethead, as it was his first soloish-esk appearence other than w/ G&R in a LONG time. Neither was a guest of the other...

FYI the other musicians were Brain, and the keyboard player's name slips my mind, but he's done work with bootsy collins, george clinton, and talking heads.

$5 has it that you're 16 or younger.

We all go through our Claypool phase somewhere between 13 and 16. Then we realize that for all of his funny lyrics and technical ability, Claypool really isn't a very interesting musician or songwriter, and we move on to other stuff.

yeah, i learned all primus songs on fretted 4, then i heard seas of cheese, and got a fretted 6, then i started listening to pork soda more, and i got a fretless 6. i think that through all of these explorations i have found my style. its like if you learn to ride a bicycle, but the bike you learn on is like PeeWee Herman's. then you ... i forgot. nevermind.

Ok, you need to put "smug bastard" back in your title, pal. ;) I'm 43, I've been playing bass for 25 years, I listen to all kinds of music, and I love Les. He does what he wants to do, which is exceedingly rare in the corporate music world. I don't care if he is genuinely sloppy (sometimes), because he's genuinly creative. Some of his songwriting gets repetitive, but to say that Les hasn't carved his own niche in bass playing means you aren't listening. I go back to "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" on a regular basis (songs *and* bass lines)... that's one of my Desert Island Discs. Les' solo in "Tommy the Cat" makes me laugh (with him, not at him) every time. No other bassist has tickled my funnybone like that, not even Victor Wooten.

If you don't like him, you don't like him. Let's not get all sanctimonious about others' opinions of him.

Does Les Really play the bass or does he play the phaser and it just looks like a bass? because from the last 5 albums he's worked on I can't tell. also when's he gonna sound like a bass of some sort? or is he gonna stick with the demented Tuba sound? and is Winona's big brown beaver one of the funniest songs you've ever heard? it's a good thing Larry Lalonde was in that band the real talent behind primus

I was just kidding around about the post above it that said something about Les "coming out" (I'm pretty sure the writer meant as a bassist..which, in his particular case, might actually be something to be in the closet about.) Nothing more.

OK, I didn't get it because there was a comment by Joe Walsh after JT's comment so they didn't flow together. It just seemed so random, that's why I said, "whoa wait, were all ignoring this comment? hmmm odd." Shoulda quoted him... or maybe I just don't get jokes anymore. :confused:
