Oh, and--nice basses! I love SCPBs. Very nearly bought a Squier CV 50s in Mary Kay White a few months back, but I went with something else. That was a darn nice instrument though.

I definitely want one of these Squier CV Series P's.. I can't find a retailer in Canada that has one in LPB/maple.. Or any colour combo for that matter..

Just picked up a '51 MIJ Reissue and it was delivered today. I will post a pic when I can. I'm so in love with this thing right now...
The single coil P or Telecaster is my favorite. Gritty fat and sounds great in the mix. And it looks perfect. A 1969 Telecaster is my go to bass.

ASAT, sorry for the late reply. The bass just needs to be refined a bit. The string tree was mounted off-center and too far forward. Thinking of switching the tuners to Gotoh GBR640s. White guard is coming off in favor of flat black, or something custom. Want to redo the electronics by taking out the push\pull and going split coil only. Shield the cavities. Maybe go to flat top knobs. Add a tug bar. I want to integrate some art into it some how, but have figured it out yet.
Hey, I really dig your builds. Some of the coolest stuff I've seen.
My 51/55 P bass, sports a Seymour Duncan custom shop single coil stack. I always found original Fender single coil pu's to be raw, edgy, and open sounding compared to the split coils. The SD custom stack adds an overall smoothness and really enjoy the expansive full throated tone.
Hey, wait, was this the original picture you posted? I don't remember ever seeing this one. Is the body MJT? The neck relicing turned out great! MJT got a little carried away with mine. Not the end of the world, we talked about it. I was planning on doing a '51 build, but then started thinking of just saving up for a custom shop. Big ferrules on the back of this one? Where in the world did you get the guard? I know you said your dad machined the saddles. Did he also do the base plate? Super cool, looks killer.

This was my main bass for over 25 years. Found the previously refinished (had it returned to blonde) 51 body (large string ferrules) and then found an original 55 neck shortly after. The wear on the neck is all natural, including the headstock logo. Sorry, can't remember where I got the pick guard, that was many brain cells ago. The bridge plate is original period correct, serial # 0678. She turned out to be a great player and we've done many many gigs together.
For those looking, keep your eyes on the classifieds. This one went for $200 shipped, and it sat there for about a week.

The SCPB thing looks like it could be thin sounding visually. Growing up seeing and hearing Sting playing his old bass has helped to think otherwise. A good bit of technique and some muting can really help smooth out the overall sound but the beef is there. These basses can be as supportive and present as any split coil precision.
That's a good price if you ask me.. The cheapest I've found online (new, which I kind of want this bass to be), is $379.99 from Guitar Center.. That's not including shipping/taxes/custom & duty fees.. Or $479.99 with free shipping from Amazon.. I might talk to my local Fender dealers and see what they can do for me.
Seriously loving the LPB.. I'm thinking if/when I pick one of these up, I might put a black or gold anno'd pickguard on it. Definitely going to drop a 1/4 Pounder as well.
The only thing I wish this bass had was a true, full-slab body. Other than that, I haven't read a single bad thing about the Squier version.
I'm a sucker for "cheap/budget" basses. To be quite honest, expensive/boutique basses do absolutely nothing for me. I choose my Dano over my L2000 most of the time. My old Squier P-Special is in need of serious work, and my wife likes the CV 50's bass, plus I told her it was cheaper to buy it than to fix my current Squier.. She agreed.

Here's my '06 CIJ '51. Four-saddle bridge, Electrosocket, Quarter Pound, Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. Punchy, articulate, with a great bottom end and a lot of tonal variety. For the last year and a half it has been my #1, winning out over an SR5 and two split-coil Precisions.
I just got an '06 yesterday. Same finish too, with the ashtrays and a thumb rest. $700 shipped from ebay with a nice hard shell skb case. Probably going to change the bridge for intonation purposes and maybe the pickup too, haven't decided. I do love it though...they are so choiceHere's my '06 CIJ '51.
