King Sunny is one of my all-time favorite artists/musicians regardless of genre. He has been around for decades, recorded MANY albums and is considered the man who revolutionized Nigerian "JuJu" music.

I met him once and he is also one of the most humble and nicest people I've ever met. If you ever get the chance to see him and his band live, please do not miss it. I have never jumped around and danced that much in my life. I had to crawl out of the place after it was over.

King Sunny? Salif? We're really getting away from the Afrobeat and Afro-funk now, and that's fine with me - both are great artists and I've seen both just killing it live. Might as well turn this into an all out Afro love-in. Can't have one of those without the Bongo Man:

nice posts Bass12, I can see where rhumba morphed into wenge and soukous, but that last link I could swear was Gail Ann Dorsey from Philly playing bass. That wasn't Binda Bass lol

That Anderson Jaojoby is happening - I'll have to pick some of that up. Funny though, I don't have any problem finding the "one" on that track. :)

I listened to some Radio and Weasel last night. My sister-in-law turned me on to them, she's visiting from Uganda. It's good music although she wasn't able to classify it as we have been doing with the genre's we've presented here.
I would like to see the soukous/lingala groups live.
