I wouldn't go that far, but I kinda thought it related to this thread with the walnut stain. There are some real beauties posted.

My JAF 5er, I believe the body is a walnut / ash walnut sandwich and the neck is maple with purpleheart stringers.

With the Walnut body, graphite neck, Kalium strings, and 2TEK bridge, the thing sustains forever. The body is actually browner than in the main pics, more like the color in the neck pick, in the background. I gotta learn more about taking pics inside.

I have another Warmoth Walnut in production, a Jazz Walnut body and another graphite neck, this time unlined. I figured I needed one lined Walnut bass with Kalium roundwounds, another unlined with TI flats.

I thought maybe the neck was ebony as I looked at the pics before reading. If it was, you would be really heavy. I have a fretless ebony neck. Feels great but is on the heavy side.

My P bass with a walnut body (not chambered) is right a 10 lbs. Heavier than a run of the mill Fender but still manageable. I have several walnut bodies I am working on and they are all in the 4.7 to 5.25 lbs. There are pieces of walnut which are extra heavy and some which are both hard and light. It runs the gamut.

I would not say lucky or unlucky with regards to the weight of your instruments. It is what it is! The nice thing is heavier instruments generally have darker voices with more bass.
I have struggled to find pieces of wood which are both light and bassy sounding. Super light body often lack in bass in my experience.

I'm in the heavy bass, light rig camp. No cabs (or heads) for me that are more than 35lbs but I don't mind an 11 pound bass. Picking up I notice the weight, but not when it's strapped on.

Speaking of nuts, anyone know why we call that thing at the end of the neck a nut instead of a comb or a rake or?

Yah, the graphite is heavy enough as it is. I really like the feel of graphite. It's a nice variation, and Moses did a great job, and radiused it 7.25" like an old Fender.

That's me too. Feels heavy to pick up, but once it's on, I don't notice it, but I have a big frame too. I totally agree about the light rig too. I got a Genz Benz shuttle 6.2 a few months ago, and it's great. I can even fit in my gig bag's pouch if I want to take it out of my small rack.

From Wiki: "The word may have come from the German Nut (pronounced "noot"), meaning groove or slot."
