It was very lovingly (er, um painstaking) removed and tung oiled.
Sounds much, much better!
Also the "sting" at the 12th fret was replace with a block...

How "natural" is "natural?"
My stripped and poorly refinished 65 Jazz.
Ohh...I think it's beautiful.
I used to have a fretless '65 Jazz.
I'm more of a P guy, but I had the '65 fretless J and a '64 fretted J.
Precisions or no, if I had both those basses today I'd feel as if I was covered and GAS free.
