There is a DJ here in KC I used to work with occasionally when I was a wedding photographer. He used to use the older style ambulance and have his equipment attached to the gurney he pulled out the back. It was a cool looking set up. I think he uses regular vans now that are decorated to look like an ambulance.

I drove one just like this for years: 1955 VW Kombi

I bought a school bus like this one:

mine was repainted hellfire red, with black flames.... used it to haul equipment, it also had a "matching" trailer.

Not quite that vintage, but I have been giving some serious consideration to a 60+ passenger school bus. Reasonably low mileage Diesel pushers can be had cheap, an RV conversion on one of these is really straight forward, and depending on the model you get, some of them have under body stowage like a Greyhound bus which would be WAY more than ample for just about any regional band. I could eke out multiple duty, Band rig, RV to travel and keep wife happy, tour bus etc... With using recycled materials, and bargain shopping for things like appliances, inverters, and the like, a reasonable, not craptastic, but actually a nicely done RV / Tour bus can be put together for under 20 grand...

I've been driving a retired post office van for the past 5 years. The negative is it has no AC but It's still one of the most practical gig-mobiles I've ever owned.
It only had 35k miles on it when I bought it for a grand.

No a/c in a postal van no wonder their all going postal!

The new dodge caravans they use have AC and backup cameras. They may even have a radio. When I bought it there weren't even speakers in the doors even though the grills say "premium sound system".
