(it's actually blown rn.. does not work at all. idk what's wrong w/ it, but im going to call the CS # on the manual when i get a minute. I hope to just get a full replacement, which you know i'll keep the thread updated on. or on the status of this lil puppy's restoration)

@beans-on-toast -

what do you mean 'if the amp is sponge worthy'? what does a sponge worthy amp mean?

I had the Seinfeld reference in mind that nshuman posted. Elaine only had a limited supply of contraceptive sponges. Suitors had to be sponge worthy.

With all the knockoff soldering iron sponges out there, good sponges should only be used on worthy amps.

Just a note about solder. Most countries outside the US now require lead-free. Among lead free solders, I'm finding that Kester K100 works a whole lot better than the tin-silver-copper stuff for hand soldering. Techni-Tool has it in spools, rather than in blocks for wave soldering machines. It's not perfect, but is a lot closer in behavior to good old lead-tin. And I still keep some lead-tin around for tricky repairs.

I honestly rarely drink alcohol, but I had a beer in the fridge that was less than a year old. I opened to toast my last 1 lb roll of Kester 60/40 multicore being u8sed up. Said day. Radio Shack will be like that roll soon I am afraid.
I just used the store locator. The one that was less than a mile from my house closed a few weeks ago. Luckily there is still a couple left near by.
