Many bassists can play Metal.....but few can play Plastic , Wood or Concrete.
Plastic:- all the rage in Silicon Valley, started by Steve Jobs when Steve bought a 5-string Squier. Characterized by a rapid bassline attack with one (index) finger. A similar rhythm to when you keep hitting the "enter" button repeatedly. Average "plastic" song is around 190bpm.
Wood:- started by drunk lumberjacks from Alaska in 1937. Although no actual basses were used in the camps, basslines were later adapted. Cross between an Irish reel and lewd drinking songs about hookers. Very lively syncopation. Simple bass patterns. Emphasis on debauched sound, wooden percussive instruments.
Concrete:- this genre was actually started by Romans. The Romans used concrete and had "concrete parties" twice a year.
Songs are usually sung by a crowd of 100 persons or more. Tempo is slow and plodding.
Lyrics are dull and vague yet retain a "heavy" feeling.
One of the great albums of the time was "Aquaduct".
Today's "concrete" sound is far from the original and is more akin to Italian Punk.
