But you can't jam, you can only remember jams, or plan jams.

It doesn’t matter how well you can play, if you don’t have a boutique instrument, everybody will laugh at you. You will never be taken seriously and your cheap instrument will only cause you to be mortified.
I'll go one step farther - if you didn't spend at least as much for your bass as the bass in the following link then you might as well use it for firewood because I'm sure it sounds like ass and probably shouldn't even be seen in public:

And conversely, the more you spend on your bass, the better you play...and thd progression is exponential. If you could get your hands on the Bass of Doom, you'd play and sound exactly like Jaco at his best.
