A ban on travelling back for pre-CBS instruments has been in place since the Parts And Replacements IS ok (or PARIS) agreement. The President thought the Paris Agreement was unfair (on the basis that the USA had made these Fenders and Gibsons in the first place, tbf) and will pull out next year. This will not, as some fear, unleash a heap of NOS mo'mojo instruments onto the market depressing prices.
How do I know? Because of my time on The Vintage Amps Forum, where cork-sniffing time-travellers have used the Paris Agreement loophole to buy every Mullard xf2 EL34 from all 60s electrical repair shops at 2 shillings and sixpence to sell them in the mid-2000s at $150 each because they make you sound just like Jimi, apparently.
