Let's spread some musical misinformation

Measuring the string height on a bass and the associated adjustment are very simple. Just stand with the bass in playing position and measure with a tape measure from where the E string crosses the nut (not the bridge as some people say) to the floor. If the string height is greater than your inside leg you need to intonate your trousers. Alternatively wear shoes with higher heels when playing - this is the technique universally adopted by Glam Rock people.

If the string height is less than your inside leg the only reliable solution is to learn to play sitting down.
How does this work for double necks?

The tech does that when you get a set up with the set of strings you will keep on the bass forever.

And that's why it's vital to glue the strings down firmly to your bass at the nut and saddles when you fit them. Spot-welding a string to its saddle also works. For added security, ask the tech to put a drop of superglue in each tuner when they've finished the setup. Don't worry if they look at you strangely - it's a mark of respect.
