Yup, the sweet chewy black stuff! I'm addicted! I can't stop! Doesn't matter whether it's the good stuff or gas station checkout rack. I'll take it! Even the fruity stuff as long as it's real fruit and not that yucky red chemical stuff!

YAY LICORICE!

:D

I like it. I very much enjoy convincing people to try it and watching the revulsion.
Hah! Reminds me of the time I convinced my Dad to try Moxie soda - it looked like his lips were trying to crawl off his face in disgust! hehe

But yeah, it's the real black licorice flavor I crave lol.

Beware of effects on your blood pressure from excessive consumption of the good stuff. Truth. Fruity shouldn't bother that.

I suggest looking for the Dutch imports for high quality (just beware of the "salt" stuff - unless you like that sort of thing.)

I now refrain from ordering 3 kilos of Dutch black licorice cats at a whack as they lead me to excessive consumption.

Also: Licorice Spice Herbal Tea

Thanks for the warning, I need to be careful, BP is already crazy high unless I'm on my meds.

...and then (if you drink alcohol) there's Ouzo.

My old standard of "good" got bought out and ruined by my old standard of "bad" (who apparently just slapped the labels from the brand they bought onto their awful product.)

My current version of good is Isidoros Arvanitis Ouzo of Plomari from Plomari, Lesvos, Greece

In an arguably healthier direction if you like the flavor, there's Florence fennel

Never heard of Ouzo until I moved to Sicily. Always liked black licorice, and liked Ouzo immediately. Potent stuff.

Haven't bought any since moving back to US, but there's a Greek community north of us where I'll order some after dinner.

Never cared for red licorice, but wife loves it and hates black licorice. Would've been a divorce, but we forgave each other LOL.

Gotta add the candy coated black licorice treat Good and Plenty. Had to buy a box of those as a kid every time we went to the movies.

If you like ouzo try raki. It's similar and delicious and extremely potent. I believe it's the Turkish equivalent of ouzo so maybe don't ask for it at a Greek place, but I highly recommend it if you can find a bottle. Most liquor stores by me have it.

When visiting Istanbul some years back my wife and I would end every evening with a few games of backgammon and some Rakis (a glass with Raki and ice cold water so it turned milky white) on the roof top of our hotel overlooking the sea. It was wonderful.

For me, there's no better flavour than licorice.

I can't link this J. Geils Band song from Freeze Frame for obvious TB reasons...

...
Well the Yanks hate the Reds
And the Greeks hate the Turks
I really hate to say it
But they're all a bunch of jerks
Seems like everybody's shakin'
Cause the big one's 'bout to fall
