...but, if the semi-acoustic/piezo thing is not of your liking you might want to look into a Turner Model 1 Featherweight...which I believe is around 4.5 lbs.
That is high on my xmas wish list!

Usually something made of alder rather than ash, or basswood for an inexpensive bass.

TBC for high quality inexpensive
Lightwave for something unique
Ristola's are increble and light, fairly expensive
avoid wenge and most exotic woods or exotic tops. Most ash is fairly heavy but there are occasional light pieces. No Ebony, Wenge, walnut, cocbolo, rosewood, purpleheart, tight grained ash... get an oil finish.

a light bass would probably be something with likely an alder body, all maple neck, lightweight tuners, p bass shape with just a p bass pickup passive, no pickguard... I wouldn't skimp on the bridge. Get a chambered body too.

That's not really that light. Your Warwick is still over 8lbs.

Squier VM Fretless (ibanezcollector relic) - 8.25lbs
1974 P (without pickup and bridge covers) - 7.75lbs
1992 Sadowsky NYC (swamp ash, Jazz style) - 7.5lbs
2007 Gibson SG Reissue bass - 7.5lbs

The 1993 MIM Fender Urge (23" scale) I bought for my son for Christmas is about 7lbs.

I don't know the exact weight of it, but my Hofner 5000/1 is quite light.

Anything chambered or hollow like a Rob Allen Mouse, Hofner Club or Beatle bass are obviously really light.

My 65 Club Bass is Crazy light, but then again it's a hollow body.
But for a "standard" scale bass (34") that isn't a hollow body, my old Parker Fly Bass was by far the lightest thing I've ever picked up/played.
6 pounds.

I'll own another one some day.

The lightest bass I have ever played is a Jackson Anti-gravity bass. This bass is so stinkin light and it sounds and plays well which is a good plus... it looks kinda weird but it is soo light! Under 7lbs. easy, good luck finding one, there is a guitar shop about 45min's from me that has one and it's so sweet!

The lightest bass I've ever played was made by BBO basses. Extremely light, like less than any guitar I've ever touched. Unfortunately, Brian Bowdren passed away almost 4 years ago, so there are no more in existence than there are now.

My Eastwood Club bass is 5.5 lbs./2.5kg. but my Kay Truetone is 5.1lbs/2.3kg.

My lightest is my Asbory at about 2lb./1kg.

Dingwall AB-1...I was shocked the first time I picked one up because they look pretty big. Light as could be for a full-scale solid body (< 8lbs.)and perfect balance too.

+1 Mine has an alder body and is 8 lbs. even. I agree that it looks like it should weigh more!

You can generalize about which basses tend to be light, but it comes down to the individual pieces of wood used to make each particular instrument.

The generally consistently lightest body woods are basswood and swamp ash (NOT any other kind of ash). You have to actually pick up the individual bass or have it weighed accurately to know how light it's going to be.

Affordable, too. Many recommendations you will get are for basses that can be light, not for ones that are designed to be light.

These are definitely the lightest solid-body basses around. I'm pretty sure these are less than four pounds, they might even be around 3.5 pounds.

My Lakland 55-01 all maple (just sold but still got my thumb!!) is lighter than my guitarist esp mh-400 guitar, so thats gotta be saying something.
