That's a great option. Bummer they don't offer chambering for the P-Style or G4 bodies (the "lopsided" shape of the J-bass bugs my eye).
A "bajo?" The Spanish word for "bass?" Sounds fine to me.
Hollow bodies don't necessarily mean light weight. My Godin A4 weighs ten pounds! The wood isn't necessarily always a deciding factor either. Karl Hoyt, a local builder here, makes basses out of walnut that weigh about 8 pounds. They're gorgeous by the way, and he's on this site...

60's jazz basses are not always light ... the average weight in kilos is ab 4.100 ...
i had a very light 73 ..it was about 3.5 kg and played very good

I'm currently in the market for a lightweight Jazz bass. I've read about and am also interested in the Aerodyne Jazz, but I'm wondering what other options are out there for that style of bass. Another one on my radar is the Schecter Diamond J, but I can't find any information about weight whatsoever.
Also, I'm looking for something in the <$1000 price range, so I can't do a chambered Sadowsky or anything along those lines.
