Lightweight Cabs That Throw...

Hands down the best light weight cabinets are the GR Bass carbon fiber cabs. I have two and both are the best sounding cabinets I have ever played through. They have a very direct and focused tone to them. I have their 2x10 which is rated for 600W and a 1x12 which is rated for 450W, both 8 ohm. I power them with a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0.

The whole rig you see in this photo including the amp only weighs around 36 lbs! That is less then a single Fender 2x10 cab I had.

I just bought a 112 and I'm astonished. It sounds better than my Eden 112 and it's amazingly light. I'm using it as an extension cab with an Acoustic Image Coda now.

I think allot has to do with the carbon fiber construction. It makes the sound more focused and precise. Great way to uncover any sloppy playing! lol

Not sure. GR Bass also make wooden cabs. GR Bass staff repeatidly say the carbon fiber models are designed to sound exactly as their wood counterparts, and all the bassists who have tried both said they are almost indistinguishable except for the weight.

They do sound great - modern, very detailed and articulate - but it's not due to the carbon fiber construction IMO (again their wooden series sound alike).

FWIW I had a GR Bass 2x10, it sounds great. I eventually sold it because I love my Barefaced cab even more (same clarity and definition but with some extra gratification in the low registry) but it's just my personal preference, both brands sound excellent anyway.

Maybe falsely, maybe not. There are imo plenty of players who need that HF extension, especially playing in a band mix context.

Yup, often the case depending on the pickup being used.
