limited useage for replying to classified ads ?

Same here. I have been conversing with a couple of sellers and now cannot reply in the For Sale threads for those items. I have not tried to PM, but I prefer questions and answers to be public anyway. I am interested in what other people ask about an item for sale, and I am interested in reading the seller's answers to those questions, even though I might not seriously want to buy that item. Reading the For Sale threads is very interesting and has greatly increased my bass gear IQ. I hope this is not a permanent change.

"Single-Post ads with timed bumping All classifieds ads may only contain one single post. Any additional information can be added to the ad by editing the post (there is an unlimited time in which to edit classifieds posts). If you want to add user questions and your answers, simply edit the post and paste them in from your conversations. Have additional photos to add? Again, just edit the post. To BUMP an ad, click the "Bump" link at the bottom of your ad. You can only bump your ad once every 24 hours."

Wow, I can't say I like this. Most of the gear I have bought from TB members has come from just unexpectedly seeing a cool item come across in the new posts for the enirety of the forums. New Posts are almost all I look at when accessing TalkBass. See, I am not looking to spend money on gear, so I don't go to the For Sale forums looking for opportunities to part with cash. But the entire point of advertising anything is to make what it is that you are selling, be seen by those who might buy it! By limiting a seller to bumping their ad just once in 24 hrs, their post will soon be buried in the global new posts, and exposing these ads to people who are not looking to buy, but very well might buy if they only could see what is for sale, will be completely lost. This change is antithetical to the point of advertising something in the first place, and it is a loss to us all.

I'm in the same opinion pool as those above. I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and insight into gear, whether I was buying it or not, from all the posts that are questioned and answered in the "for sale" threads. If its up to the seller to essentially control the complete content on the "for sale thread" then I can see an avenue for potential fraudulent or dishonest postings too. The open and public communication process is one of the main things that have kept the transactions honest here on TB I think. If this is indeed the way the classifieds will work from now on, I'm going to be hard pressed to buy and sell gear here anymore, and perhaps more importantly to those who run this site, I doubt I'll continue with a contributing membership.
This issue needs to be addressed ASAP.

Here is the typical scenario I see coming. You post your cool bass for sale, but like most you neglected to list the weight. So all day while you are not monitoring your ad, instead of that question being asked once right there in the thread, (where anyone wanting to ask the same question will see that they don't need to ask what has already been asked), you will receive N numbers of PMs in your inbox, that all ask the same question. This is a needlessly inefficient way of communication.

What does the Talk Bass community collectively gain from these changes?

Quite awful indeed. Poorly, poorly thought through.

Also, can't the posting/replying dates be in bolder type/black color?
