Line 6 HX Effects

The thing I want to do is control the frequency like in a wah. But in a ladder LPF (moog filter).
I think it is the most musical filter for bass
I haven't had a chance to hook up an expression pedal yet, but there's a model called Q Filter in there that seems like it might be what you're looking for...? (If you're talking about what I'm thinking you mean in my head. lol) From the little bit I messed around with it last night, it seems like a model that lets you basically program a "stopped" wah pedal, without the need of an expression pedal. Like if you were to stop a wah pedal in mid sweep somewhere, but you can really dig in and have control of where that stop point is. At least that's what it seems like anyway. I'll get back in and check that effect specifically the next time I get a minute to sit down with the HX... probably tomorrow evening.

5sg.

Not a deal breaker, if it all works out I’ll unload some unused pedals and just buy one. There’s allot of instances in the material we’re doing where holding the faux guitar note to do bass line fills would work out really well I think. Freeze and fade away would be nice but don’t think the freeze does that. Maybe a similar effect will be added to the hx in the future too which would be a super bonus. Cheers!

They don't have a dedicated freeze effect, but you might be able to work some magic with the delays to create a similar effect.
Yeah totally that’s what I’m trying to do know. I have a Zoom ms50g but never been into effects till about 2 years ago and never owned a delay so it’s a little trial and error and haven’t got anything descent sounding yet to do that. Sall good though it’s not imperative to have atm.

Damn. Its only been 20 min, but I’m A/B’ing the HX with my board......man they are dead close. I can almost get the heavy dist (legacy rat) to sound exactly like my fuzzro rat tail. Like so close. This is surprising to me. I didn’t think it would get THIS close. But I’m liking the boss MD500 a little more so far. But it’s only been 20 min haha and I still need to get it in with the band. I’ve not even scratched the surface yet...

I could be wrong but I don’t think so.

You can use a reverb and expression pedal to get pretty close. Have the expression pedal control the decay up to infinite, so when you want a "freeze" you go toe-down and play over it and then toe up to release it. The only issue would be what you're playing would add to the pad underneath. Maybe if we all complain to Line 6 enough, they'll make a dedicated freeze algo.

I did something similar with two multifx pedals and and an aby pedal. Started a pad with self oscillating delay and huge reverb, then cut the signal with the aby pedal. I think a similar thing could be done with either inserting a volume/gain block before the reverb and automating it to cut the signal when you increase the release time, or just insert an aby pedal in one of the effect loops and cut signal there.

Definatly a couple of options there thanks guys!!

I've been surprised with how much the HX can replace of my board while adding tons of options. I want to dig into using a couple of my pedals in the HX switched loop. Also using MIDI to control my Future Impact and building HX presets around it. They really nailed it with this thing.

I have to agree. It’s not like I never had faith in digital multis. The ones I’ve tried just never really “got there” for me sonically. I was initially impressed with most of what the HX had to offer. But after spending some real time with it and A/B’ing it to my actual board, I’m even more impressed. They really did nail it and there is a reason why so many guys are switching over. The helix platform is quite good.

Upon more thoughts on the hx I’m wondweung what it would be like putting my B7k in the loop and use the B7k think it’s called obsidian but using the two together would be epic, would almost be like having a B7KU..

The B7K in the Helix is based on the ultra model, so it has the distortion engine already separate from the EQ. I've never owned a real B7K so I can't compare the two, but I've been extremely happy with the helix version.

Aw nice, great to hear that! Yeah seems like they nailed practically everything in it plus all the routing options and it’s not that big of a footprint..I’m sold on it and the price is descent too. The people who’s gottem lovesem and don’t think I’ve heard anything bad yet.
