Line 6 HX Effects

Haha I’m the same exact way. Although my B7KU isn’t going anywhere. Ever. Unless it’s an upgrade to the next B7K line. Which I was actually thinking about going to the v2 B7KU. But then again, for what I’d update it to, I can get in the HX. I’m still planning on getting an A/OU though to swap out with my A/O.

Even if I got a helix floor, I would almost assuredly still use my preamps. Maybe I’d get them in my rack unit. Just plop a little custom board into it. Those 4 pieces are essential for me. Even with full amp and cab sims, those preamps are my flavor and I’d be running then even with a helix floor. However, I’d have to actually get and use a helix floor for a while to see. This is just me thinking out loud....
I hear ya man, those are essential to your setup but my bass tones are simple for the most part and in the low to medium gain areas most times.I've been messing with effects for a royal blood/rhythem guitar bi amp setup. I find myself running out of blocks for modulation, delays, reverbs due to achieving this effect. Would be nice to have room for more but not sure how much dsp I'd use up cause literaaly only need room for 1 amp and cab, 1 or 2 mod/delay based effects and a revervb. On the other hand I could free up blocks by using a separate multi like the mooer in HX loop and cover half what I need in there and keep my b7k... Ok my brain hurts now haha

Yeah I’m messing with it now. You like glitchy stuff at all?? The “wave” 1 is glitch-o-riffic (on the synth-o-matic) It’ll depend on how you set it too. But it does some really cool glitchy stuff. Freq and Q set low low. Actually my Q is off and the Freq is set to like 8%. High pitch though. Dimed actually. Low mix, around 30%. Fun stuff.
Yup the glitchy is fun to play with. Thanks I'll input those settings and give it a rip tomorrow when the wife is gone!

@gregmon79 how do you put it... “snap” I listed my B7k in the classifieds and likely gonna upgrade to an LT. I look at it like, if I need some Darkglass flavour after all this I’ll get an A/O or maybe I’ll end up with an MBD-1 who knows haha. I do know the LT will be super beneficial to my setup. Although if the B7K doesn’t sell quick enough I may change my mind and work with what I got cause the HX has 90% of what I need and can build on it to make it 100%. Either way I’m cool with the outcome.. Just gonna watch the hour glass now haha I’ll keep ya posted!

I'm thinking of maybe upgrading to the LT to get access to all the amp and cab blocks as I could sell off some gear to aquire but wondering if your limited to 9 blocks like HX or is there more blocks to play with. My other "budget"option would be to get the new Mooer GE200 as the have all their new micro preamps and cabinets built within (I own one micro pre already # 012 and sounds great) or I'm also wondering if maybe the amps and cabs in the full Helix may be available for the HX in an update one day. I'm open to other options that may provide amp and cab Sims. Cheers!

What kind of amp sim tones are you after? I just spent an hour or so retrying all the bass amps and I prefer the sounds I'm getting out of my Tonehammer or VT Bass DI pedals. It's quite probable the Helix models were actually closer to a real mic'ed up amp, but the pedals sounded better to me both in isolation and in the mix.

As long as you have an audio interface it's quite simple to set up a trial of Helix Native and find out for yourself!

As of the present I’ve only tried the amp and cab sims that were available on the zoom ms50 g which I sold to fund my HX. My crunchy octave up signal sounded best going through the amp and cab sims available on that compared to just my Mooer Micro Preamp with its speaker sim engaged. I figured I should be able to find an amp and cab blocks that would work. Also the added bonus of bass amp and cabs in the LT is desirable and would like to expiramemt with those too but I do have a dedicated bass and guitar amp as well as 2-ZLX12P monitors with Allan & Heath mixer and trying to get an all in one straight to PA setup. My biggest thing atm is I need more blocks and the LT offers that.

I haven't tried the octave up into a guitar amp thing in Helix but I bet their guitar amps would be first class for that application. I kinda feel like their bass amps didn't have as much time spent on them as the guitar ones!

I do those Royal Blood style sounds with a Mooer Tender into a Joyo American Sound (Fender amp sim) into a TC Mimiq.

My thoughts exactly should be first class! Aww cool I was always curious how the Mimiq sounded in this application. How are you using it ? for power chords ?

The Mimiq is used as an always on stereo widener for the fake guitar. So clean bass into an A/B/Y switch, bass channel into a VT Bass and 'guitar' channel into the Tender, Bass Whammy (for power chords), Joyo, Mimiq. When all mixed together it makes it sound massive as you have bass panned centrally and two slightly delayed 'guitars' panned hard left and right. Pretty sure the Helix has a doubler effect too!

That’s really cool thanks for the info. I’ll def experiment with the doubler effect now!

Question on expression pedals. I ended up with a cheap one today after some trading and it sweeps backwards into my hx. On the M9 it was easy to assign min and max values but I haven’t figured out how to fix it yet. I’m still planning on a better one at some point but would like to get those one working for now.

I think in global settings-pedals-change from normal to invert exp 1

I played around a bit more, and I have a preset with Obsidian 7000 and Deluxe Comp that very closely matches my pedalboard default sound which was B7KU and Origin CB comp. Dang.

And the signal flow editor looks pretty great. :hyper:

Tap tempo question - I have a Transistor Tape delay in my preset. How do I get it to listen to tap tempo? I set the tempo and the light blinks at the tempo I set, but the delay ignores it. To be clear, I want to tap the tempo in stomp mode during a performance, and have all relevant blocks (in this case just the delay) use that tempo.

I’m pretty sure you can set the way your tap behaves in the globals menu. I think. I haven’t really messed with it much actually. I know I did a little the first day I got it but haven’t gone back as of yet and have messed with it way too much since to remember.

Glad it’s working out for you so far. Pretty cool units aren’t they? I know I’m very happy with mine still. Obviously haha.

On the time setting on the delay push the knob and it switches from hz to note subdivisions. The subdivisions allow you to use the tap.
