Line 6 HX Effects

More on how much the HX so cool. Me and @fivestringgecko were talking earlier today about our presets. And be reminded me about the Edit program and .hlx (is it?) files that are created when you back up your presets in it. Well he was like, “I’ll just create a Dropbox file and shoot you an invite to share it. So we can share our HX presets”. So he did. So after I plugged my HX in to my computer and a few short clicks and moments later, I had his reverb dream patch on my HX and he had one of my synth patches on his end. I totally forgot about all this stuff and was immediately remknded, this is so cool!!!! We could all share our patches if we wanted. I’m a total dork but this is exciting :D

Btw, geckos reverb patch is so cool. He put an alwaya comp in it to clamp down pretty hard so the patch doesn’t run away from you. Which I totally could if not careful. But the way he set the comp was really cool. It’s got infinite, mellow, solid sustain. Killer patch man.

Can anyone tell me if the HX has shelving low-pass/bandpass/high-pass filters on it? I looked through the manual and could only find mention of graphic EQs and one parametric EQ. Can you use multiple instances of the parametric EQ to create LPFs/HPFs?

I played around a bit more, and I have a preset with Obsidian 7000 and Deluxe Comp that very closely matches my pedalboard default sound which was B7KU and Origin CB comp. Dang.

And the signal flow editor looks pretty great. :hyper:

Tap tempo question - I have a Transistor Tape delay in my preset. How do I get it to listen to tap tempo? I set the tempo and the light blinks at the tempo I set, but the delay ignores it. To be clear, I want to tap the tempo in stomp mode during a performance, and have all relevant blocks (in this case just the delay) use that tempo.

Woah, what? You managed to find a compressor in the HX that rivals the Cali76 CB?! I admit I assumed nothing would quite come as close, so was planning on adding my Cali to one of the effects loops...

Link please! (if you don't mind of course, gecko)

Let’s not get crazy here... :)

The compressor doesn’t rival the Cali76, I especially loved the HPF. But I was able to get the same feel that I was going for with the separate pedals. If I still had my pedals, I would probably compare and nitpick, but since I don’t, I’m happy with the weight/cost/convenience/fidelity tradeoffs.

If you can, I wouldn’t get rid of your pedals until you can compare them. But I would think about whether you can get something that sounds and feels close enough. For me, I think it will work. But I had already made the decision that the hassle of a large pedalboard wasn’t worth it to me.

There is a module with just a simple HPF and LPF in addition to the graphic and para EQs.

That's pretty sage advice all round.

I still have a pedalboard to fill (not looking to downsize boards, more changing from an M9, then realised the HX can do almost everything my Boss ES-5 is doing), so at least in my case I have space on my board to keep pedals.

Will let you know what I can hear in comparisons

I’m sure @fivestringgecko isnt opposed to it. But I’ll wait for him to chime in on this one. I think he’s better suited to set up what we’re after for this. But I’m sure we’ll get something going soon. Because this is a really cool idea.

Have any of you problems with the infinite rotary knobs?

My only complaint is that the parameters adjust so fine that you have to spin the knob 20 time to turn it all the way up or down. I wish fine tune was a selectable setting. But no problems with them working as intended.

Exactly this

I know this has been somewhat annoying but I’ve gotten pretty good at spinning them in a way where they’ll shoot up/down really fast too.

I noticed too where I have mine on my board, there is def room for error. I actually brushed a knob going to stomp some dirt at one point. But I think that’s mainly me getting used to it being on my board. I know I was feeling one of the knobs over the weekend and thought they felt a tad unsolid. It would be cool if there was a cover made for those. But I haven’t read or seen anywhere on forums where people are complaining about them breaking so I’m not too worried about it.

Traded in the HX for an LT today. The HX is an amazing piece of gear but for my setup the added block capacity and amp/cab sims on the LT is what I need. It took selling a couple pieces of gear which I was on the fence for but think it’s gonna work out perfect. Now time to open the box and update and dig in. \m/

Very cool! I look forward to hearing how the LT works out for you, and I'd love to hear more thoughts on how the LT and HX comapre in live use.

I will def let you know how they compare but atm not gigging but my brother who’s a drummer we mess around as a duo and I run a bi amp setup a la royal blood style so likely not able any time soon for a full band context but might bring to open jam locally and in that case I’ll let you know. Cheers!
