Line 6 HX One

After selling my hx stomp, then my Anagram. I tested this hx one, integrating it with my analog pedal (lloyd photon, jam rattler, sansamp bass driver and lowrider pultec eq). Maybe i'm going to send it back but the tuner is accurate. I find the simple pitch of the hx stomp (less good than the anagram but better than the digitech the drop). I just understood the story of the flow that allows you to have two settings of an effect... In the end it's not bad at all. It allows you to have a clean boost and to dirty it, not to mention the HPf lpf, or the eq... interesting all the same.

If you connect an expression pedal, you can go quite seamlessly from one setting of an effect to another. Even tweak it to a no effect/full effect sweep. Use it all the time.

but the tuner is accurate
My only complaint about this pedal is how hard it is to engage the tuner.

It fits my needs perfectly: usually it’s set Regal DI, but I use it for my modulation or reverb. All my patches next to each other. I have a Source Audio Spectrum, but it’s easier to tweak a filter or synth on the fly on the HX One, so it’s handy when playing around with ideas at rehearsal.

If I could just reliably get to the tuner, it could bump that off my board, too.

I just purchased a brand new HX One. It's firmware is 3.70.00.
When choosing note timing over free time for delay effects, it's indexing is off by one. If I have my delay time set to 1/4 note, it delays by dotted 1/4 note. To get the time to delay by 1/4 note, I have to choose dotted 1/4 note. It's like this for all notes.

So a few questions..

Is this a known issue that is solved by a firmware update?

Does updating the firmware void any warranties?

I don't own a Mac or Windows machine, only Linux boxes. So updating the firmware will require some extra work that I don't want to get into if updating the firmware voids the warranty, especially if this isn't a known issue that may not get solved with the update. I'd rather just return the unit.

Anyone else go through this with their HX One?

Hold both switches for 2 seconds for tuner?
Or was this covered and I missed it?

Replacing my tuner and another effect with this one box is worth it

Updating the firmware will not void your warranty. I would absolutely download the newest version, especially if you use midi.

That doesn’t work from the preset list (i.e., when the footswitches select which preset).

I’ve since changed my setup (I use the HX One to normalize the volume for the different channels on the Le Bass) and the tuner is much more accessible.
To clarify on this, if you are in preset list mode, you have to press both buttons to get into the preset view, then long press both switches to get to the tuner, then when you get out of the tuner, you have to short press both buttons to get back into preset list mode.

Since I’m now using an Ampero Switch to navigate the presets, it’s a lot less hassle to get in and out of the tuner.

My current setup has the HX One connected to the midi out of the Le Bass, which will set 4 specific presets depending on the Le Bass channel, and then I can move up or down through the presets for special effects (chorus, tape saturation, etc.) using the Ampero Switch.

Didn’t know this.
I’ve just put a handful of effects , tweaked for me, of course in 10 spots and just scroll between those while having access to the tuner as well.
I really need to learn these units a little better.
I have a stomp as well🤣

I've not heard that but we're currently at 3.83. Definitely update.

@Digital Igloo , when the HX One is in Insert mode, do the insert send and return levels (instrument or line) match with the pedal's input and output levels?

Is it possible to have the One in insert mode operate its mono input and outputs at Line level, but its mono insert at Instrument level?

Not in front of HX One right now, but no, I don't think so.

Posting my own reply  ...

Outstanding results doing the following:
Quality buffer before the HX One
OE DCX after it, HF cut, LF goosed.
Broughton buffer after that.
Are you still using this setup?

I have a similar setup -- Peterson tuner > Compressor > POG > HX One > (Looking for a sort of preamp/low gain driver like the DCX) > Broughton H/LPF.

I'm not sure what I think of it. I haven't tried it with the band yet, but I realize I mostly want drives and fuzzes, but I'm always worried they won't cut through a mix or lose too much low end. A lot of them are guitar pedals known not to really work with bass. I guess some of have "mix" parameters? I need to play with the settings more

The other thing is I realize that most of the time I actually don't want just the one effect. I like delay with reverb and octave with dirt. I understand that that's the nature of the pedal, but the H90 often had parameters for effects you'd use simultaneously within the same model. Sure you could have two blocks and do octave > dirt, but the octave patches often had a dirt parameter, so you could do octave with dirt + something else.

Still using the HX One. Currently last in my effects chain following eq and compression.

I found that I liked the drives enough in the HX One, that I no longer needed my Aftershock, although my preamp is my primary source of dirt. The Prize Drive is my favorite.

That said, for your needs, I’m not sure if the HX One will work for you realistically. There are some combination effects (modulated reverbs, octave fuzz), but if you use a lot of simultaneous effects, I think a single HX One would come up short.

I have an SA Spectrum at the front of my chain and a Two Notes Le Bass at the end, which gives me some options to distribute some effect duties between the three.

Maybe in combination with something like a Plethora X1. I picked up a little Valeton GP-5 to play around with in a similar sort of setup, although I haven’t actually found a need to use it that way.

Any fuzzes you like?

I kinda found a way to “fix” my issue with reverbs and delay, and I’m thinking maybe buying a separate drive pedal would make the HX One worth it for me.

However, none of the Muffs models include mid controls. I used to have a Muff pedal, but I really needed a mid control to cut through the mix.

The issue is I won’t have a chance to test the HX One with the band before the return window closes and I’m wondering if I should just return it and get a decent stand alone fuzz.

I confess that I don't have much experience with or need for fuzzes, so I don't have any real world experience to share there. AFAICT, the Thrifter Fuzz is the only one with any sort of direct control of the mids through the notch filter.
