Line 6 HX Stomp

Velcro, put it on a board. I can get away with just the stomp and a midi controller. But i’ve found myself adding a few pedals for convenience. OC3 for extra sub, for the presets I don’t have blocks for it. Tonehammer for extra dirt, just because I like it that much. And finally an h9 for just about anything when needed, pitch, synth, tremolo, reverb, delay.
It’s good to have around for easy access but still, i COULD do with just the stomp. It’s that good!

Bigger question - can you accomplish everything you're looking to do, with the number of blocks available to you in the Stomp?
Yes. My normal needs are:
HPF and compressor always on. This is one block, since I can use the HPF in the Global EQ.
Overdrive. Normally BDDI. Sometimes YYZ, SH1 or 5th Gear. Only one at a time, so that's a second block.
Chorus. Not always, but I do use it sometimes. That's a third block. I can see me using a block for pitch, possibly at the same time as Chorus. So let's call that a fourth block.

That would be more than I'm using regularly now, because my Pitch Fork is not normally on the board.

If I include amps and cabs, that's a fifth block.

That give me a sixth block that would not see regular use, and even when I am using it, there's a good chance that I wouldn't also be using Chorus AND Pitch.

I have a simple signal flow. Not much in the way of parallel paths, except to use crossover to send low frequencies around chorus.

I also don't usually stomp on more than one pedal during a song. Maybe to add chorus. So two available FS (with FS3 as the tuner) is easily adequate.

I can't find the reference I saw, but it might be worth checking where in the signal chain the Global EQ takes effect. IIRC the Global EQ takes effect after everything in the chain, so for me, I like placing a HPF/LPF as my first block anyway so those frequences are removed on the way in. But, there's no right or wrong answer here I don't think, just comes down to personal preference

I'd also recommend using another compressor, set very gently, as your last block in your chain.
Also, if you're using amps and cabs? Try to consider the idea of your signal chain in the HX being a recording chain, rather than a traditional pedals-into-amp signal chain. So I like using tricks that I'd use when recording (compression, EQ etc.) after my amp block to further hone what I'm sending to FOH. It works surprisingly well.

Also, for situations where you do need to change multiple stompboxes or "things", don't forget to investigate snapshots. They're super powerful.

Can you tell me witch block you're using and at witch frequencies you set it up? tnx!

Using the Low Cut/High Cut block.
Frequencies will change depending on heaps of different factors - use your ears as the best guide.
For me, with the band I'm in, with a P bass, my HPF is at about 45-50Hz, my LPF around the 5kHz mark. YMMV.

I'm going to second the above post, as I have a lot of trouble with very shrill, harsh sound. The difference for me is that it happens mostly when I'm using it for acoustic guitar lately. The harshness is mostly on reverbs and delays. I've been unable to get anything like the old lexicon sound, warm, etc.

On another note, has anyone had problems with the tuner? Mine seems to have gotten inaccurate. It starts out reading correctly, then goes sharp. If I tune down to make it read "in tune" again, it is actually flat. I noticed with my acoustic guitar, and haven't with my bass, but it may have been happening with the bass. Maybe I should have posted separately, but here it is ;-)

For wah I’m using the weeper. I think the key is setting the sweep range correctly to what you like. On the lower end I’ve gone anywhere from 180 hz to 250 or so. On the high end of the sweep somewhere between 900- 1.5 hz. It’s really just personal preference I think.

Hey all been playing with my new Stomp mostly for modulation sounds like chorus, flanger and phaser. The phaser doesn’t seem to be vary present I n the effect level department even when mixed 100%. It’s there but very faint. Something I am doing wrong. I have experienced this with some of the other modulation effects. I use a mini phase 95 on my big board and it kills just trying to get the same effect on my compact board with the stomp.

Hi gang,

What’s the compressor most are using on these? I’ve been really underwhelmed with what I’ve tried so far but I’m happy for that to be a user error issue
I’ve been a fan of the studio compressor when I need / want one. It’s stock settings settings with adjusting the threshold to taste seem to work well.
I don’t use a compressor often though since I more often have some type of always on drive engaged

Was in the same boat but had some success today with the 3 band using this post I found in TGP this morning (below). I used it to find a starting point for my bass and tweaked it for a boost/slap/lead. I lowered the bass threshold lower and then boosted the high gain and a bit of mids. Brought out a nice crisp high end and tamed the low mids and sub.
Happy to report it worked really well today at band practice, was able to step up above the guitar players and get all slap happy with plenty of headroom due to squashing down the bass a bit.

The default settings are kinda whack for a bass, this worked good to get to a starting point:

Bookmarked to explore later!

I've had really good luck with the Deluxe Comp, but I've never really used comp for tone shaping... more just subtle evening of overall signal to get effects after it to behave more consistently.

5sg.
