Line 6 HX Stomp

Well, I finally started diving in last night and got my HX Stomp set up with my 2-button midi controller. It's looking like this will be a very useful tool, and hopefully the center of my smaller board! It felt like that 'turn the corner' moment I needed to get the hang of the editor, interface, and how everything works in a basic sense. Now, for a couple questions...

I typically use an HPF/LPF at the end of my chain just to tighten lows & tame highs before my signal hits my amp. It's particularly useful for ridding my dirt pedals of their 'bees in a can' frequencies, and it just makes the lows punchier. Having said that, I'm trying to decide if I want to keep an H/LPF on my small board after the Stomp or try to dial in an amp/cab sim that has a similar end result. I spent an hour or so toying with different bass amp & cab models last night, but they all feel way more colored than my H/LPF and my OCSD cab sim pedal.

Any suggestions on ones that worked for folks here? Are any of you using the amp models this way?

My issue is that I have two great amps already, so I'm not looking to bypass their pre-amps or re-color my sound. Just need some tiding on the ends of the frequency spectrum without simply killing treble/bass on the global EQ...
There’s the global EQ block if you just set and forget LPF & HPF or your can use an EQ block if you very it.
The other option you could look at is a 3rd party IR I think most will be more colored than an EQ but there are some great sounding IR’s out there that are better sounding to me than the stock cabs

@Grahams Groove - I think it really depends on your personal setup. If the Stomp is at the end of your signal chain, then using HPF/LPF within the Stomp makes perfect sense, and also clears up some pedalboard space for other things. If you have a "Can of Bees" dirt pedal after it though, you still might not get the results you're after and might need the standalone filter(s).

Another thing you could try is to put your dirt pedal in the Stomp's FX loop. It would take up a block in your Stomp's signal path (but it sounds like a block limit increase is coming...?), but then it would live within the Stomp's signal chain so the global HPF/LPF would work great, and you could put it wherever you want in the signal chain.

5sg.

I probably will also. But I wasn’t sure about volume levels for the input with that method (but may have confused that with the iPhone and camera accessory method).
USB volume is in the global settings, I connect mine to my Mac and turn the usb volume down to about -12db for acceptable levels through my headphones

I am greatly saddened to learn that the 2.90 update does not support Output Meters and Gain Reduction Meters on HX Stomp! :crying:

I was really excited about those features. :(
Agreed. That, and the fact that the 8-block increase is not included in 3.0, is why I suggested that they call 2.9 the "No Soup for You, HX Stomp" release.

I hate to think the inordinately long elapsed time between releases was not due to the development of capabilities (meters) with limited availability and function that Line 6, themselves, didn't seem keen to introduce.

A couple of the new distortion units look interesting for the bass, though.

Hopefully, 3.0 will be released before Winter NAMM. That seem an awwwwwful long way off. Free the Stomp!!!

Seems to have clipping indicators, that's about it. HXFX didn't get any metering at all. To be fair, the gain reduction meters are only available on two (or 3?) blocks. Compressor (including 3-band?) and Gate. The "fancier" compressor blocks don't have metering either. And yes, only on the bigger Helix models. Agreed it's a bummer!

Yeah it is a bummer no GR meters for stomp. The signal and clip indicators could be helpful at least. If it’s an consolation the meters aren’t that impressive. I have a full Helix as well and the meter is kinda “eh...” Doesn’t seem all the accurate or responsive. I haven’t spent that much time with it either though.
It’s step in the right direction for sure but I’d like to see Line 6 improve the meters and add to Stomp and HXFX ad well with the 3.0 update.
At least we have the 8 blocks in 3.0 to look forward to.

When I just read your post, I thought I was having reading comprehension issues. The I went back to the Line 6 page and realized they just hid this disappointing news in really small text.

Thanks Line 6.

Hmm - I'll look into this tonight. Define "fancier" here?
Is there a list of which blocks have it vs those that don't?

"In very rare cases, leaving the unit on for many hours can sometimes cause reverb models to cease outputting audio"

"Hey, so we found a bug where it just stops working. Like, our device stops doing exactly what people bought it for"
"Call it rare, make sure to use adverbs and make it sound unlikely, and release anyways"

The firmware post says it's only available on the gate, compressor and 3 band compressor blocks. Am I reading that right, everyone?

I don't have a full size Helix, so I can't even check for myself.

From the post:

Gain Reduction Meters (Helix Floor, Helix Rack, Helix LT) The following block types display a gain reduction meter in the inspector when selected:

Dynamics > Compressor (the 3-Band Comp displays three meters)

Dynamics > Gate
