Line 6 HX Stomp

Just curious; why do you keep the external TC tuner on your board ? The HX Stomp has an internal tuner.

Also not a fan of the built in tuner and I don’t want to lose a foot switch for a tuner hold/press. So, need an external button to keep footswitch 3 or need an external tuner to keep footswitch 3. For me, the choice was to add a tuner.

I’m not a fan of the built in tuner. It seems to be too twitchy. I’ve tried it every way and it just isn’t my favorite. Personal preference as much as anything I suppose. I use one on all my boards; REDDI, PZ-Pre, and HXS. Plus... I get to use the 3rd button for a effect or snap. Bonus! :)
Agreed.

I love the Stomp, but I keep a full-sized TC Poly-3 tuner on my little mini pedalboard. It’s easier to read in all environments, and provides a more stable readout. Plus, it allows me to use all the buttons I have with the Stomp (which includes a Mosky 2-button expansion) for strictly Stomp purposes (i.e. stomps, display paging, patch/snapshot switching, etc.). I can still call up the Stomp tuner by holding FS5, but I don’t use it.

I have a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770s at 250 ohms. While I have to turn the volume up a little higher (compared to lower impedance headphones) when listening to music on my laptop, I love how flat they sound. They don't color... very natural.

They're especially fantastic when plugging into the headphone out on my head. Holy cow, true audio gold! Again, they don't color/alter what you're listening to... so I get a perfect sense for what the head is turning out.

Hi all,
I recently bought a pair of Beyerdynamic Dt 770 250 ohm for using them with my hx stomp, per recommendation of lots of forum threads claiming they are the best headphones for the helix. Nevertheless, even if I find the sound is really good, the volume is somewhat low, and when trying to drive them to a sweet volume spot, the low end begins to distort heavily.
Before, I was using low impedance headphones, and they never distorted, even at very high volume.
I read elsewhere that high impedance headphones are indeed recommended for hx lt/floor, but not really for the stomp, since specs are different.
Does anyone have a thought on this? Maybe some headphones model advise?

Thanks in advance!

That makes sense. And yes, the internal tuner is a bit twitchy. I prefer to use my TC cliptuners (got 3 of them) instead but I am also using the 3rd button as a mute switch.

Did not even get mine yet, but I am really looking forward to the parallel processing. I struggle with some of the clubs we play because they only allow me 1 FOH. looking for a Cliff Burton patch.

YEs, if you register your Stomp with Line6, there is a forum where you can download patches.

The parallel processing is a winner for me as well. You can mix a clean DI signal that retains all the punch in parallel to
any fuzz/amp/cab etc. which gives color. This way, I get a great FOH sound.

This makes sense, if you have another tuner pedal, you can just make the 3rd switch another footswitch and not a tuner right?

Hey, you know you can access the tuner by pressing "Action" and "Page >" together ? This frees the 3rd switch for something else and doesn't use any other switch :)
Just put a piece of rubber or cork to allow pressing these buttons together with your foot and you're done

I also don't have a problem with the Helix tuner. I use it in Fine mode, and feel like it's just as accurate or better than other tuners I've tried (Boss, TC, Peterson)... Big bar for coarse adjustment, little bar for micro/fine adjustment.

@CyberSnyder - have you tried the strobe tuner mode? It's pretty quick. (disclaimer, the TurboTuner is one I've never tried, so I don't have the comparison)

The Line6 Community Share for patches is called Customtone.

5sg.

Good to know. Recently sold off a Peterson StroboStompHD tuner for that exact reason. I didn't find it was any faster or more accurate than the HX tuner.

I haven't tried the StroboStompHD. But, I do have the iStroboSoft on my iPhone. Highly recommended because you'll always have at least a backup tuner with you at all times. Also useful for testing instruments in store.

Hey guys,

skowly working my way through the thread, so apologies if this is covered.

juat wondering if anyone has any resources for tutorials or patches using just the hx stomp for bass? I'm more after tutorials than patches, but patches can show how to do things too.

so far everything I’ve seen still uses power amps or IRS or other outboard stuff.

cheers,
Axl

I use my Stomp just by itself.
Bass>Stomp>DI (not necessary)>FOH/IEM.
The presets are ok and will give you a good starting point for building your own patches. I also downloaded most of these very usable patches which are awesome and provide a great template for building your own patches.
