Line 6 HX Stomp

What amp/preamp does everyone use to get a grindy SVT tone? Tried the SVT and SVT4 Pro and can't seem to get settings I like.

I’ve never played through a real SVT but I use the SVT Nrm amp and 810 cabs for a grindy tone.

This. Gain staging makes a big difference in grind-y-ness. You can use a boost like the Teemah to get further into grind territory if the stock settings aren’t quite doing it for you.

after the most recent update I find my HX Stomp to be stuck in snapshot mode, I prefer to use preset mode but can't get back there using the page buttons, any advice? I tried a factory reset and restore from backup to no avail
Nevermind! solved it by accident, apparently holding down footswitches 1 and 2 switches between snapshot and preset mode

My new fly rig [on the left]!
Useful for both bass and guitar with the added expression pedal

Mosky dual and Switchcraft passive DI with -20db switch and ground lift. Mission Engineering 529M converting battery power. 30,000MaH RAVPower battery.
This has been tested for hours at home, as well as at band rehearsals. I’m loving it!

Hi dear friend.
Can you please explain me exactly how this powering setup works? What I need to buy? What is the connectivity? What is the autonomy? What is the charging time? Any noise? Hiss?

Thank you.

Another stomp question for the thread:
the band I'm playing with currently is utilizing a lot more of my effects blocks in the Stomp than I'm used to. For live sound, when a DI has been needed in the past- I've run the bass into a RNDI and then through to the Stomp, then stomp does the preamp into SA500 into my amp for my stage sound. With the current band, that's not really cutting it. Recent gigs with the effects blocks coming from the stomp (different gain/dirt stages, some delays, some swells, etc depending on the song) I've gone out from the stomp to a passive DI (Radial JDI) into the system but some FOH guys aren't super happy with that as the signal is changing with the effects needed (I've got them pretty close to the same output level as far that goes, but still...) I'd love to go back to having the RNDI as the in to the system- but I'm not sure about putting it after the stomp and between the amp or going from the amp out between the amp and the cab (speaker mode for RNDI). Any experiences with this *very specific* type of thing?

If your HX is altering your bass tone to fit the song, the only other recommendation I can think of is to use a stereo DI. That way you can give the foh a feed of your direct bass sound, plus a feed of your HX Stomp.

Otherwise you’ll have to explain to the sound guy that you’re not just playing “bass” but the effects are part of your sound.

Not sure I follow. Are they complaining about not getting the exact same tone for the entire set, or do they have specific complaints about how different tones fit in the whole mix? If it's the former, that's on them. If it's the latter, that's more on you

Maybe you haven't quite figured out how all these different tones sit in the mix? Output level is just part of that equation; you also have to consider how the EQ curve of each tone can make you stand out or disappear in a mix. In addition to that, when the band kicks into a higher gear (drummer hits harder, guitar player kicks in his boosted gain channel), you may have to get louder as well.

But I'm just guessing here; I don't think we have enough information to give you exact advise.

Careful about that though. If this is some FoH guy who's getting pissy over having to deal with bass effects, he will most likely just ignore the wet signal and just run the direct signal straight to the PA.

I have never been great about communicating in writing- sorry about that! lol. I'll try and clarify if I can:
Neither of those are really my question, but to your point - I think it's a little of each from their perspective. They are confused by not getting the same tone for the whole set and I think in their mind that's problematic for the fit in the mix. I won't pretend that I've got something flawless dialed in, but on the other hand I'm no spring chicken and based on feedback from the band and my own ears, I don't think the fit in the mix is the big issue here. Again- I could be wrong and I'm open to that. I'm certainly fallible.
I think you're asking good questions here - I've worked on the EQ curves for each tone a bit and think I've done some problem solving, but perhaps I need to revisit it...

My original question was more to do with running an active DI such as the RDNI after the stomp- is that a problem? If so, the RDNI can take a signal from from the power amp and use that for the DI and then I can send the thru to the cab if needed, but I've just not messed with that sort of thing before and was wondering about thoughts from others that may have done the same.

Hello.
The Mission Engeneering 529M changes the power from the battery pack to the 9 volts that the Stomp needs. there is a usb “c” cable that connects the battery pack to the 529M, and then a 9volt cable that goes from the 529M to the stomp.

Charging time will vary depending on what battery pack you use. It’s important to note that the battery pack will need to be a “PD” type. I have since moved to a slightly different set up, but still powering the Stomp with a battery pack and the 529M. I’m now using a 20,000mA battery pack. And at the end of a typical 4 hour gig, there is still 50% battery left.

Here’s the cable that goes from the 529M to the Stomp; https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016BJGZ2U?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Any usb “c” cable will work from the battery pack to the 529M.

Here’s a link for the 529M; https://www.amazon.com/Mission-Engi...cphy=9019558&hvtargid=pla-1026828061614&psc=1

Because I’m not “plugging into” a power outlet, I really don’t get noise or hiss.
As a matter of fact, I am now completely battery powered for my entire set up, Stomp, bass, mic, and IEMs. I’m loving the convenience and shorter setup/tear down time too.

I hope that answers your questions, but if you need more info, feel free to shoot me a private message.
Best of luck to you.

Active DIs can usually work fine and fairly consistently from either passive or active inputs, the only thing you have to keep an ear out for when using non-passive (high-output) sources into some active DIs is the potential of (unpleasant) distortion from hitting the DI too hard and clipping the internal amplifiers. The RNDI claims to have very high headroom on the instrument setting though (capable of handling line level sources), so this shouldn't be an issue with that DI and honestly hasn't ever been an issue for me using Countryman or Radial active DIs either. If in doubt just turn down the signal from the Stomp and you should be fine. The RNDI really attracts me as an all-around instrument DI due to its hybrid active + transformer design, pretty cool.

Of course I don't think this will solve any of the issues you were describing with getting your different tones to match in a live environment

My friend, this is exactly the info I was looking for! Much appreciated!

If all you need to power is the Stomp, skip the 529M and go with a Ripcord:

I'm making a PortaStomp v2 enclosure based on the Ripcord :D I found it a few weeks ago and it's amazeballs.

@Esquillama PortaStomp v2 I'm flipping to a Ripcord, room for the 30k mah pack, a custom built-in Stereo DI circuit with stereo to mono summing switch and ground lift switch, 1/4" input jack on the side (so it's not always going in and out of the stomp), and one of my FrontAux3's but Midi-fied for fs4,fs5, and direct Tuner access. All the cables/wiring/squareplugs/midi-jack is protected too so even more durable/portable/all-in-one. Happy to upgrade you if you ever want to, I'll share photos when v2 is done :)
