Line 6 HX Stomp

Hello hive mind!
Is anyone using the efx returns on their Stomp, to bring in iPhone (or etc) tracks for practice. I have a cross country van trip coming up and need to practice to band tracks as I can. Is it as simple as TRS to dual mono 1/4 and futzing with the input blocks?

From my iPhone to the stomp to practice, I use a lightning to TRS and plug it into the return. Change the settings in the stomp from return to input. If you have one of the new iPhones with the USB C, you will need that adapter instead.

Hold up. Could you expound on this just a bit for my technologically infantile brain? Are you saying I can plug my iPhone straight into the Stomp for headphone jamming with one of these cables through the effects return input? Would the Stomp then just hear whatever I am sending into it to jam along with, or would I need to also have an effects return block somewhere in my signal chain? Will the iPhone’s signal be mono? And then when you listen through headphones from the Stomp’s headphone output, (which I don’t typically do anyway, I usually use a rolls headphone amp for headphone practicing), would it be in mono or only one side of the signal?

He already mentioned USB-C to TRS. Doesn’t seem like it’s an iPhone.

iPhone 15 Pro. USB C

Snagged a USB C to USB B cable from Amazon. AKA USB C Printer cable.

Coming into the Auxes, device to dual mono 1/4" works fine but you lose your efx loops. Not a biggie for me this trip.

Comining into the USB will work but you lose the ability to power up with a power bank.

Nice to have options...

Watch this video. Run it up to about 3 minutes for the HX stomp settings.

Two options for iPhone/iPad + Stomp: analog, as though connecting wired headphones (comes out stereo, dunno if you can set both left+right returns on Stomp as aux in); or digital, via usb. I have a USB c to USB b, then a printer cable connected to my stomp. Apple natively sees the stomp as an audio interface, and as long as you've got headphones monitoring main out, you'll hear both the idevice and your tonez. Best part is no blocks are required.

@teopatl Yep. The efx returns can be set to aux in. Did you power the HX Stomp with a power adaptor or power bank?
Ah sorry I misunderstood. I power via the 2.1mm plug, either ac adapter or cioks dc7. I know Scott Uhle talks about an adapter from Ripcord that connects a power bank to the 2.1mm power input. Tbh didn't know the stomp could be powered just on usb

The ripcord usb to 2.5mm dc cord will definitely power the stomp as long as your source can exceed ~1a continuous.

You're misunderstanding each other.

No, the Stomp can not be powered by the USB input (as in, by plugging in a powered USB cable and not using the power input)

Yes, the Stomp can be powered from a USB output somewhere else, by using an adaptor from USB to 2.5mm and plugging it into the Stomp power input.

The Stomp can be powered from a hamster wheel, as long as the resulting power is 9V, at least 900-1000 mA DC and is supplied via a 2.5mm center negative power plug.

The ‘powering’ in question was referring to the phone. Older iPhones (post headphone jack) needed an AV dongle to allow charging while sending data via lightning cable.

newer iphone12 and later iPhones can use MagSafe charging while using the data port.

Either way there’s a doable solution for mobile silent practice with HXS
