Line 6 HX Stomp

Hi!

i´m coming back i was trying the Quad Cortex but it is too much for me and so expensive just not to get 100% of and i love to share with my b7k ultra and KOT i buy again a hx stomp, a blue one. My question is i don´t know how can to use the DI of b7k ultra with all the wet, maybe using a fx loop? or just putting afte hx as last pedal?

THANKS

Three suggestions:

  1. Run the B7K after the HX Stomp. This is the easiest setup, and will save you a block (no need to run an FX loop block in your preset). It will also allow you to easily run the 1/4" out to an amp, and the XLR out to FoH.
  2. Run the B7K in the FX loop, and use an XLR-1/4" cable from the B7K to the FX return of the Stomp. This lets you use the cab sim of the B7K, but takes away your XLR out. If you want to run to FoH direct, I suggest getting a DI box.
  3. Run the B7K in the Stomp FX loop, but use the 1/4" out on the B7K. Then add an IR/cab block in the Stomp after your FX loop. This will allow you to make very flexible presets, like running a clean line next to your B7K line, but it will eat two blocks in every preset (FX loop and cab sim).
Personally, I'd run the B7K after the Stomp. It's the most practical and compact way to run this setup, in my opinion. All other solutions get increasingly complex in terms of routing and preset setup, especially if you want to be able to run both direct and to an amp.

For me it depends on what you’re using the b7k for. EQ or a little bit of drive then it could go after. If you’re using it for full on drive or distortion I’d put it in the fx loop before modulation or sim blocks. Putting it in an fx loop will also give you flexibility to blend a clean crossover parallel signal but you’ll need something else to run xlr out.

Is there a 'formant' sort of effect in the HX or Helix ? I'm thinking of the vowel'ish almost talk box effect on the low notes in Bon Jovi's It's My Life ...
Yes… well… kinda. You can use the ring modulator to create a similar type of effect. If you got creative with that and a filter you might get there. Others might have a better idea than me. I seem to recall someone building the Pony synth sound which is similar to what you’re seeking.

Anyone have recommendations for an auto wah or envelope filter setting you like? I haven’t started to search yet, but have a new cover song that will require it, so thought I’d ask for recommendations here first to save a bit time. :)

Settings and utilities will be very subjective there, but the Mutant Filter is a pretty good Mutron for a nice starting point.

Ok, in my never ending quest of trying to keep from buying new gear, I keep tweaking this thing.
The latest I’ve tried, is a combination of four blocks that I change settings in combinations in snapshots.

1. para eq
2. Teemah
3. Para eq
4. LA comp

First eq to cut on the hpf and boosting some mids going into teemah. Then different gain settings going from clean, slightly dirty into full dirt.
I change how much I cut on the hpf(40-70hz) and how much gain(1.5-5-10) on the teemah between snapshots.
I know turning up the bass knob on the teemah does something similar. But this way sounded better to me, and boosting mids into it, you can change the gain structure further.

Then after on the 2nd eq, I cut some lo-mids and cut lpf around 6k.
Lastly the comp to tie it all together.

This really works better than any of the amp combos I’ve messed with.

It will not be for everyone, but thought I’d share if anyone wants to try something different that still has that “pushed” amp feel.

Finally upgraded my firmware to 3.71 (went smoothly no issues) so while I'm at I went through and added back all my own presets including all of the basic stock amp/preamp patches along with similar patches created using the Dr Tonelab flat and balanced EQ settings. So IOW I have three different versions of each stock amp/preamp; the stock patch, a Balanced version, and a Flat version as per Dr Tonelab. So basically I have something like 40 different basic amp tones to sort through looking for something that clicks for each different bass, and then tweak from there if required.

Digging out some printed out charts while doing this I discovered an older set that differs from the most recent one I have on hand which is from 2021. Most if not all of the Balanced were different/upgraded from the older ones which has me wondering how much they've changed or been tweaked over time.

So now I'm trying to find online whatever is the most recently updated charts from Dr Tonelab but not having any luck. If someone has a copy they could post or share or maybe a link to those charts I'd be most grateful.

Does anyone know if there is a way to not make the screen change when I activate a snapshot? 2nd pic is the screen it goes to once I press a Footswitch. I'm using command center snapshot switches.

So I have a Nano+ with a Shure GLXD+, an HX Stomp, and a Radial DI. There’s a little space left. I could fit an HX One after my Stomp and before my DI. I was thinking maybe using it as my “Noble” so I can leave my Stomp presets alone and not have to clear a block for the Regal in all my presets. Anyone had that thought or do I g anything similar?

Sounds alright to me. Much cheapr and smaller than the Noble and much more practical with the ability to switch fx on it.

I’m using IMA presets that are full. I took one drive off one to get a block to have the Regal. Just thought I have space, I have power available (DC7) and it’s cheaper than a real Noble and sounds almost as good. Misses the “feel” of a tube but I can live without that to save space and money.
