Line 6 HX Stomp

So at my gig the other day, I connected everything like this:

from the Boss LS-2 on my pedalboard

Into the input of the stage D. I.
To the power amp in on the back of the SVT. I'm not sure if this is right. The sound guy did this. It sounded just okay. What would you have done? (plugging into the amp's return did nothing-no sound)

So I may be falling under the category of underutilizing the abilities of the HXS, but I found a great tone just using three blocks. LowCut/HiCut into the CaliEQ into the Studio Tube pre! Sounds amazing though my Katana 210. The Humboldt does it’s magic, and gives me a nice tight compression, and the rest is just pure fretless bliss.
Sometimes I think that also. However, if it saves me three pedals by only using three blocks, it was worth it already

This should work if the Stomp's output level is set to Line (vs Inst) and the DI can handle it. On some amps, the return isn't engaged if there's nothing in the input, so you'd need the 4 cable method

I am in this camp. I struggle sometimes with "going back" to just pedals for the few things I use. But the Stomp is paid for. It works. It sounds fine. It fit's with my GLXD on my Nano Board. The Anagram is cool and tempting - the interface mostly - but I have so much invested in my Stomp - including some purchased presets that I use daily - that I just can't justify a change to something very expensive, just to get a touch screen and XLR outs.

And even if I don't use everything now, if there comes a time I want to try something, I probably already have it in the Stomp. No thing to buy, no rearranging of the board, etc. Until it isn't, the Stomp is a great little device that is working for everything I NEED right now, even if I don't make "full" use of all the things.

And I love the tone I’m getting! Time to throw some effect blocks on there in a parallel line, and see if I can make them work!

3 blocks = bliss ;)

Thank you for the reply and advice. Do you use the 4 cable method? Does anyone? I want to try it but I'm not fully understanding how to connect it if I'm using my stereo rickenbacker.

What mod does everyone like to use their Stomp in? Most board shots I see are in stomp mode, but I usually use snap shot more.
I have button 4 set up to change modes on mine. You can bank up and down in snap shot mode with 2 buttons, but it doesn't switch until you hit the preset. You can have presets queued up. So good. Once in the snap shot I can toggle to stomp mode and make changes to reach base snap shot with the effects I've assigned to each button.

Both. Stomp mode on the unit, snapshot selection via external controllers.

Just out of curiosity. How many of y’all are moving or plan to move from the HX Stomp over to the Darkglass Anagram?
I'm contemplating going through one of these two routes and shrinking my board significantly. I really like things about both the Anagram and the Stomp. Obviously the Stomp is cheaper especially with used ones readily available so that's a big appeal, but the Anagram likely could be an almost all in one unit, except maybe adding a volume pedal which I use frequently. If anyone has any thoughts advice about which way to go I'm all ears. My usual gig is church, typically one service in the morning and one in the evening playing contemporary praise and worship, occasional special events and other side gigs doing cover songs, weddings, parties, ect. Any feedback from you all on the Stomp is much appreciated.

Has anyone had luck buying an after market HX Stomp power cord? I'm looking for something a little longer than what comes with the stomp.
You can use a 1-Spot or similar to power a Stomp (just make sure you have about 1000mA available), you’ll just need a 2.1mm to 2.5mm adaptor like this as the Stomp uses a larger than standard tip size. I’ve powered mine with a 1-Spot several times when not using a pedalboard: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...zLiz5ZGy8mFkzSILlaMJ_BdVLQ-4-p6kaAl7zEALw_wcB

It's definitely tempting to me. All the preview videos I've watched sound great and I mostly don't go into the more crazy effects that the HX has to offer. But the price definitely makes me hesitate, as does the fact that it's a brand new device without a history.

In a year or two, if Darkglass has kept up support and updates, it might be worth looking at. The NAM capture support is pretty cool, as is the potential for support for DAW plugins.

But then in another year or two, there may be some brand new hardware from Line6... Helix is now 10 years old, after all... that's ancient in the digital world.

But also... if I happen to get a spare $1200 for music gear any time soon, it'll go towards a fretless bass, not a replacement for my perfectly good HXStomp.

Exactly where I'm at. If it ain't broke...and I just bought a 2nd P bass so it'll be a bit before my account recovers. Gigs are down a bit for us.

Stomp mode here, but I use it together with a midi controller.
That way I can have tap/tuner fsw 4/5 and presets up/down all available at once.

For those of you playing live with an HX Stomp only (no amp), do you use cab sims or not? I'm going back and forth. I don't play live shows enough to really judge the sound either way, maybe half a dozen a year but I'd still like to sound good. Playing along at home, there are things I like about both but a pure DI, Nobel only patch does fit nicely, I just worry about it providing enough low end live. Playing kind of folky rock, acoustic guitar and drum kit with some electric.

No cabsim here either. I use my Stomp for effects only and go into an analog preamp with DI afterwards. I've played around with cabsims at home when I first got it, both the built in ones and from external sources (Shift Line among others), but I like my tone better without. Before I went IEM only I was also using a preamp/DI to FOH without micing the cab and that sounded perfect too. Nothing changed for me.

In my eyes a bass signal doesn't need a cabsim for live usage. Besides me wanting to give the FOH engineer a kind of neutral signal to work with, it still goes through a cab of sorts when it comes out the PA speakers. When recording, it's a different story, but even then I prefer to play around with amp/cab simulation in the box so usually I record very clean.

But that's just my opinion and my experience. There are lots of players that like and use cabsims a lot for example when using overdriven or dirty sounds a lot to smooth it out and make it more natural.

If you found your happy place without a cab sim, there's nothing wrong with that.
