erm, u wont get an improved tone with the x3. since its pretty much the same thing. the only add on features are the vocal stuff, able to do two instruments or one instrument one vocals at a time thing, and a few things here n there with minor details and tweaks. if u need that... then sure. its a good deal

My first impression of the unit when I saw it being shown on the line 6 website was that it was just another pod unit, in which they were going to make a bass counterpart... I looked into it more and found that all the Bass stuff is already on it. So this is a plus for people like me who play both instruments. I got it and so far I am happy with my purchase!

Not true. The X3 has a factor 13 more processing power which results in quite clearly distinguishable sonic differtences (clearer sound, more dynamic).

I wasn't very convinced about the XT, but got an X3 as soon as I heard them side by side. I've got a first series device, but haven't had any problems. Most of the launch problems seem to have been squashed by a new firmware and some hardware alterations in new units.

Only problem right now is the absence of Gearbox editing software, but with the much inproved interface compared to the XT I am not finding this too much of a problem (though it is definately a negative right now compared to the XT).

Don't tell me that... now I have GAS! (I currently use a Bass XT Live, but I also play guitar, and am actually without a guitar amp at the moment.)

From a bass perspective it looks like there are a couple of new presets (correct me if I am wrong) most notable the "Modern Bass" & "Albert Hall" presets. They sound pretty cool. However, I've only listened to the samples on
Line6.com. Can anyone tell me if indeed there are some new "bass stuff" on the X3 compared to the XT. Wre the "Modern Rock" & "Albert Hall" on the XT or are they new?

The X3 sounds a lot better than the XT, IMHO. I've had them all since the 2.0 days. Richer and more complex is how I would describe it. The ability to blend 2 different signals is very, very nice. I thought it was going to be worthless at first, I was wrong.

Do you mean it sounds better recorded or live? Or, both?

If live, are you using it as a pre with a rig or just straight to FOH?

Thanks, I have been using the bean version with the FBV shortboard. I too use it in Studio mode to a power amp into a Schroder 1210. I never use the cabinet emulation in conjunction with the rig. I essentially use it for pre-amp modeling, compression, and tuner. I'm pleased with it, but it can get a little testy in some rooms when it comes to EQ. I also use it alone on In-Ear gigs which I absolutely love.

I really need to get my hands on an X3 to see if the extra $$$ is worth it. The bean would be nice because of the stereo outputs.

I originally purchased the X3L, but I like the format of the bean better, I don't need the loop and really don't use the XLR. That combined with already owning a shortboard... I took the X3L back and got the bean. Now if a PRO version comes out, I may have to get that.

I really like the bigger display on the shortboard vs. the Live version. If you need to tweak on the fly, I have a cool little stand that booms off of my mic stand.

You know, after owning this almost 2 years, I am just now getting proficient at getting the most out of it. It truly is something to tweak with, but once you get it right, it sounds really sweet in my opinion. :cool:

I bought the X3 bean for use in my home studio for guitar.

The bass sounds in the X3 are much better than my Bass POD, so I just sold my Bass POD.

With the X3, it sounds like the models are clearer overall. Not that they are "cleaner", but more like the AD/DA conversion is better. You also get a lot more flexibility as far as the number of models, cabinets, and how to arrange effects etc.

The Dual-Tone option is great as well. I usually set up an amp model as well as a second channel with just the Neve channel strip model. You could also set up 2 different amps and record them to separate tracks. It's a great feature!

The SPDIF output sounds great straight into Pro Tools. There is zero noise and for some reason playing through the digital output seems more "immediate" to me.

The X3 is just as good on bass as it is on guitar, in my opinion. I also feel that it is a significant improvement over the original Bass POD. As far as its' vocal processing goes, I haven't used it for that. It's not really a feature I need from the X3.
