"Lipstick" P'ups?

I don't believe that there ever were any lipstick style p'ups for a bass - might be wrong there.

But has anyone ever used a guitar lipstick for a bass?

Perhaps I'm thinking 'way outta the box here, but I want something unique for my next bass design and this is pretty far out I think -------------- if I can pull it off.

I had visions of having to buy/try a six-er guitar lipstick and see how it worked.

You might want to check Kent Armstrong's inventory - he makes lipstick pickups that fit the form factor of a Jazz bass.

For the record, Danelectro uses the same pickups on guitar and bass. They work just fine though and you can buy them as separate parts easily.

Guitarfetish has a good selection of lipstick pickups, no specifically bass sized, but they offer singles and humbuckers.

I looked through their p'ups, and found a lot of interesting versions. I just wonder how to install one of theirs that are designed like a bracket assembly that fits into a pocket and yet will like like a flush mount.

I'd like that the mounting tabs didn't show.

Time to do some more research.

I'd think that you would have to drill the mounting holes all the way through the body and mount like Danelectro does.

I've had the same thought, but I was going to get the Strat sized ones and just use mounting rings.

I remember once going into an electronics parts supply store with my Dad about 40 years ago, and they had a bin full of what I now know to be Dano lipstick pickups, for about a dollar each. Funny how that stuck with me all these years.
