You've definitely outdone me. I forgot that I had used a Marantz Model 32 power amp for a while. I think it was like 60 watts per channel. I did use but never owned an Acoustic 370 for a while.

Hey, I'm old and obviously quite fickle. I think the one I had was 125 watts/side or so, but only one side worked.

I've still got all of them except for the acoustic combo which was the first. The Markbass gets ALL the action now and has since I first got it in 2012. I feel sorry for the GenzBenz since, while it's a very good unit it just doesn't have the overall presence and punch of the Markbass so it's role has been sadly reduced to an "emergency backup" unit.

#1 Acoustic 126 Combo. Had a natively very "cardboard/Billy Sheehanish" tone which I don't miss as all. I bought it new from Music Emporium mail order catalog around 1980 or so. I liked that it had built in rolling caster wheels and that Jaco also used Acoustic amps at that time.

#2 Gallien Krueger 400B. Tonewise this was a MAJOR step up from the Acoustic. I coupled it with a Carvin cabinet housing a "15 JBL silver cone speaker which I bought directly from Carvin's Anaheim outlet. I happily rocked this rig for years but the GK head sadly often needed some sort of servicing.

I still have both the GK head and the Carvin cabinet. The Carvin cabinet is truly a rock solid warhorse and has NEVER had a problem whatsoever since the day I bought it. I think I bought both of them in 1983. I've retired the GK head as it's required one too many repairs but the cabinet is still going strong. But it doesn't see much action anymore due to it's weight.

#3. An early 1990's issue Gallien Krueger MB150e. A 150 watt combo with a built in 12" and also featured resident compressor and chorus effects. This sounded great and had enough power to drive the "15 Carvin cabinet above to cover pretty much all of the small club gigs I was then playing. Eventually this amp proved to need more repair than I was willing to tolerate. I loved the built in chorus and compressor though as I tend to hate the hassle of using pedals of any sort.

After playing one at NAMM and being quite happy with the sound I bought a used...
#4 GenzBenz Shuttle 9.0 head but once I got it it somehow it wasn't doing what I thought it should tone-wise.
Shuttle9_sm.jpg

Right after that purchase I had some very important new gigs coming up really fast and based upon a few things some guy here named KJung ( or something close to that ) wrote about having tried it I impulsively ordered a brand new

#5 Markbass CMD121H.
markbass-cmd-121h-304545.jpg

I was totally blown away by this unit and I still am. It just has "presence and punch" galore especially in a live mix. It's never been not enough in any way for the type of gigs I do. Gets compliments all the time for it's sound. One of my best bass playing friends swears by Ampeg but he does love the sound of this thing.

It reduced the GenzBenz unit to being for backup only.

The Markbass has never needed servicing of any type and has always delivered amazing tone and volume in any situation it's been placed in. Even competing with three over cranked guitars and a brutally loud drummer.

PS. Mucho thanks to KJung for having said what you did about that particular Markbass combo years ago. It turned out to be pure amplification gold for me.
