The Cerwin-Vega CVA series looks promising. A 2X8, one of which is coaxial, and a 400 watt continuous power amp. 99dB @ 1w/1m, 70 Hz to 20 kHz, 60 Hz @ -10dB, 48 lbs . Could be good for vocals, acoustic or electric guitar, violin, or mandolin. Add a CVA subwoofer for bass and keys. Looks like they recommend 2 or 3 of the 2X8's to match with the 21" sub, but I'd probably stick with the 15".

Well, I would like the AER CX8 which is a tidy little powered unit. Not mentioned on the thread I believe? But I don't like the price 
@derrenleepoole: AER does make some nice stuff, but two things: 1) the CX8 is a high/mid cab, it would need a sub (AER SUB12) for bass, 2) AER is REALLY expensive and hard to find. If someone posts or PM's that they've used some of AER's (or for that matter Meyer Sound's) cabs for bass then I'll add them.

I'm thinking in this direction, I've got my Ashly BP41 and rather than find a power amp and cabs I like, it would be awesome to just carry the pre and plug it into a powered cab. Just going to have to listen and see how they behave, best candidates I have seen are QSC K series and JBL Pro series with Crown power. What I cannot find is any info on woofer x-max on these but the input choices seem to match up with the Ashly output choices nicely.

I am looking to go this route. I do looping with bass and have a Midi system on my bass so I need the full frequency spectrum. I have a QSC PLX2402 and Accugroove Tri112L and would like to maintain that clarity. I also want more low frequencies. I like the Bag End stuff. I just want to know all my options.

I would check out some of the newer un-powered 3 way bass specific cabs. There are a few really outstanding cabs out there, some of which plans are free. If your budget is tight, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] and build it your self. Amazing price point for what the finished product will do.
I have been experimenting with a QSC K10 (or a pair) and they have a surprising amount of booty to them. Much less brittle sounding than I thought. I've only messed with them in the studio though - haven't gigged them yet.
I purchased some Yamaha MSR400 12/horn boxes after trying my bass thru them. They are front ported so the there is plenty of bass without a sub and they have a 2 band eq on the back. I have the highs dialed down to at least half. I have an ART studio pre on my pedal board and a GEB7 to dial in the tone, and the DI out from my Radial tonebone goes straight to the desk. I also run a compressor and VT Bass on my board. The VT bass with some grit dialed in sounds fantastic thru these cabs.
So, what has happened in this field over the last two years? What's a good tilt back wedge style 12 for running a tech 21 vt in to?
