The best cab made by Ashdown IME is the ABM 4x10 EVO IV. Awesome sounding cab.

The best cab I've used and that I shouldn't have sold: Mesa PH210. Really heavy, but the sound was just amazing.

In the lightweight territory, I think the Markbass Traveler 102P is pretty amazing.

I don't see why you'd get a 610 or 810 Proline apart from aesthetics. Most EBS amps can run at 2ohms so a 4ohm 410 is the obvious choice to me (with the option to add another for a 2ohm load). The 610 runs at 3ohms I believe while the 810 runs at 4ohms. If you're amp isn't 2ohm capable, similar logic applies with the 8ohm 410s.

I can't agree with this. Yeah, the tweeter is pretty useless (I ditched it when I split to 4-10's), but those drivers are plenty capable of mids. I have no problem "cutting through the mix" Its a great cab, of course one man's garbage is another man's treasure.
...and why you'll end up with every cab know to us.

There must be a tonal difference given the different size, even with the same speakers. Not concerned about coupling cabs together or weight, although my amp can only do 4ohm, not lower.

I highly doubt it. What you're attempting here is wrong on many levels and the users will get caught up in this.
It sounds a bit like you have some kind of "platform" that needs some content and now you're asking what the best cabs of every brand are, which seems like you want to take a shortcut that does not exist.
Do you understand what a cabinet does? I mean really understand?




You could come to my place and look at my collection!
I have the best cabinet of every single major brand lined up on a wall.
They are sitting right behind the best bass for metal.
Along with the three best overdrive pedals for bass and the single best fuzz pedal.

just the one I have personal experience with. Iirc it has the widest frequency response of any of their earlier cabs, as it is ported with a tweeter.

I remember seeing a lot of 4x10 on top of 1x15 big Hartke rigs on big stages/music videos of the 90s, which may (or may not) have been from a biamp setup. I think that was really part of ‘that sound’ as well. So the combo of 410XL/115XL (more specifically two of them!!)
is probably the most I C O N I C.

4200pro tried to deliver that in a single powerful 4 ohm cab.

I run a studio with 30+ cabs and various Dynamount robots attached to them, safe to say I know cabs. What I do will take months and months, no shortcut involved - I’m obsessed with tone, and will gladly prove all your assumptions more than wrong in due time.

The purpose of my thread was to gather as much knowledge and help to be able to satisfy every taste, not just the one I’m more familiar with. It’s something that would at the very least make some bassists very happy, so your attitude is not justified. Keep going with the pissing contest if it makes you feel better though lol

Haha amazing! If I had to do this properly, I’d have to audition all the speakers to find the best one out of them, and then capture all the speaker positions to find the sweet spot - All of this with various mics. Essentially thousands of IRs to find THE ONE. Challenge accepted :D
