#1 Was a VOX AC50 with the Foundation 18” speaker cabinet. The cabinet had no handles which I added as it was a bear to try and carry. The sound was mud for days

That was my second rig. I thought I'd made it when I bought that, an amp that proper bass players used. It didn't sound great but I think I was far too focussed on my playing and being in a band to worry about the sound I was making!!

My third was a Marshall 100 watt Super Lead and a Marshall 100 watt 412 cab. The lead amp just sounded better than the bass version, so that's what I bought. I did a lot of good work with that rig.

My first amp and cab was made locally, a 60 watt bass amp called a Nashville, I have no idea who made it, and a 412 made by some guy called Crook, unsurprisingly called a Crook 412! Needed 2 people to carry it and sounded OK, as I remember.

1993 - 125 watt ASI bass head paired with a rat fur Distex scooped 15" PA cab.

Fender sidekick 100 into Bassman 115 cabinet then Bassman stacked with Hartke 4x10 cabinet

Peavey Mark IV into some combination of the Bassman and Hartke

Since others have added a fourth, the Peavey, Fender, and cabinets were liquidated to become a Crate BX-160 which was louder and more convenient to move than either of the head and cabinet rigs

Big rig is Acoustic Image Clarus Series 4 with a Frenzel 800z rocker tube pre-amp. Those are the only amps I've ever bought and I still have them and have found no need to think about anything else.

2. Peavey 1X15 combo, Mark III I believe. I still like the tone of this amp. Weighed 12,345 lbs.

3. Eden WT400, Hartke 4X10 + 115. Bought from a pro who was downsizing well ahead of the recent trend, at the time I did not understand why the 15 blew twice. It was all part of the same rig, why should that happen?

There is a post on the "Bass Guitar" page asking us to list our 1st 3 basses, I thought list our 1st 3 amps might be fun. I started playing in 1969 so some of you may never have heard of these.

1) Challenger PA head with home made 2x15 cab. Got the Utah speakers at Lafayette Radio. My uncle and I had no idea how to build cabinets and it was huge and sounded terrible.
2) Silvertone 25 watt tube head with silvertone 6x10 cab loaded with Jensens.
3) Fender Bassman with 2x12 small cab. It sounded great as long as you didn't get too loud.

2. AMPEG SVT 300 watt tube 77/78 with 9/10 Cab
3. SWR REDHEAD 210 combo
