Loaning a Bass

I loaned a friend a bass for about a month once while his 5 string was in the shop being repaired after a nasty fall. He needed a 5 for the material and I was running sound for the group and he was a true professional when handling gear so it wasn't a huge deal. If it was a replaceable bass (i.e. Fender, etc.) then I might consider it but I would make sure you were compensated for it and covered if it gets trashed. I had to loan my rig for backline for a fly in band at the venue I worked at and couldn't enjoy the show for thinking about my rig the whole time.

Well, We were gonna be the opening act for them but that slot went to another band that travels with. We rehearse and store our Equipment in the Sound companie's warehouse without charge. He offered to rent it from me but I declined rental as a good gesture. the sound company often gets us gigs and as I said lets us use their warehouse and PA gear to rehearse in. If I do loan the Bass I will personally bring it to the show and put it back in the case ASAP when the final note is played. And of course it will be my cheapest bass. It won't be my Precision.

Laserman . . . ahhh.. no. Why "loan?" . . . why loan your gear when you can just as easily rent it with a LOT of pre-show/post-show stipulations in an actual contract?? Not only that, but you really should secure some tangable asset from the company to negate any damage or theft prior to the show.

That's deeper info than what got everyone all fired up.

Sounds like you are comfortable loaning the bass in question. That seems a point that varies by person & by bass.

Sounds like the sound company takes good care of you already & you see this as a chance to return favours; good stuff!! And it's cheering that they offered to rent it from you.

I suggest that instead of this being a freebee 'loan' you make this a rental agreement for $0 but retain the loss & damage clauses in a rental agreement. That lets you still return the favour but protects you should any damage occur.

VERY curious why bassist doesn't bring a bass.

Ok - If you were going on a major tour overseas, wouldn't you want to play your own bass? Even if you took it on the plane as a carry-on...?

They have at least 10 tour dates? What bass is he going to use for the rest of the tour?

Floating around somewhere in California that I "loaned" to a former friend.:mad:

He ultimately gave me the money he received for it, (about half the actual value), but the bass was long gone.:scowl:

Never, ever, loan instruments to anyone.

And BTW, since you guys got bumped from the bill, what is the new opener's bass player using? Maybe they can buddy up and share basses since they are on tour together and all...I'm just sayin'...

I've lent friends basses. Some of my basses are pretty mojo'd and I have no problem if other people add their energy and mojo to them. Other basses of mine (like my Stingray) nobody's touching.

I think it's simple. If you're not comfortable doing it, don't do it. If you have no problem with it, then do it. You starting this post says you're not entirely comfortable.

And like others mentioned, my first question here would be "why?!?" It makes no sense that they'd want to borrow your bass.

I wouldn't pay 5 bucks to see Nazareth. Maybe they agreed to do the show of everything was provided due to a low pay structure.

Either way, as long as you are willing to accept the fact that bass may get damaged, it's your call.

Man, that sounds like a bunch of bull! How the hell can they be asking to borrow your bass?:eyebrow: They are just hoping that youre a dumbass, so that they can save what ever time and money on a rental, not to mention legal responsibility by not being professional with their buisness. (obviously they dont mind making you feel akward about all the risk on your part) They dont give a crap about you, thats why they're asking you in the first place.

You know better man, you should take their request as an insult. Even if they paid you for renting it from you, how dumb are you gonna feel everytime you look at your bass (assuming you get it back) and see a chip missing or a scratch on the wood or paint..... or worse......:scowl:

A lot of new and highly relevant information, as said earlier.

While You don't have any obligation to "rent out" your bass, I'd say that'd be a decent thing to do. IMHO of course.

What is beyond me though as well is, why the bass player (Agnew?) hasn't got his basses with him? We are talking THE NAZARETH from the 70's, right? RAZAMANAZ Nazareth? Or something that has one member who's got the rights to the name, an original member or not?

I'm a big fan of the old Nazareth, don't know a squat about their newer releases.
