Loaning a Bass

Hmm,

After reading all the post here I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this. I'm either going to back out of this deal or offer up my $200 Ibanez bass which is my #4 bass that I only use to learn songs at my computer. Nazareth should have their own gear and shouldn't need mine. The whole thing just sounds wrong to me now.

Rented gear gets treated like rented gear. The player isn't aware that the instrument they're using is someone's pride and joy; as far as they're concerned it's a piece of equipment owned by a rental company and there's a good chance it'll get treated like some guys treat rented cars.

I also find it really strange that they aren't bringing their own instruments. Amps I can understand, but I would have thought that the minimal (or zero) cost of bringing guitars would mean they'd bring their own.

Phatbass - I've already said it... well, several times. Airlines usually don't allow instruments onboard as a personal luggage (too big) and checking them in is VERY risky. Not only because chances of damage (if you have a very good ATA-approved flight case you should be safe) but because of the fact airlines lose luggage very often and then decline to pay a penny. That's how a well-known Polish guitarist lost his beloved vintage Les Paul. Me, if I finally buy e.g. an Alembic, there's NO WAY I'm taking it anywhere if the trip is via plane.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure there are companies you can rent instruments from...

OK Guys,

Turns out they didn't end up needing my Bass at all. The Opening had a spare he could use till their gear caught up to them. Their Bassist had a nice rig : Ampeg SVT2, Ampeg SVT4 , Ampeg 2-15 cab and 2 Ampeg SVT 4-10 cabs. Glad I got out of that one. I'll decline any other Attempts to use anything I own in the future.
