I had to stop participating on TB for probably around 2 years because my 2010 MacBook Pro would crash trying to use the site. The crash report upon re-starting listed GPU overload as the reason for the crash. This isn't the only thing that caused it: photo editing, older Microsoft PowerPoint formats, and anything that tried to run in QuickTime also caused this issue. Basically, programs today far exceed the video processing needs of when that computer was new; however, the site worked fine when I first joined for quite a while.
I spend a ton of money on Macs to slow down obsolescence (not that that's actually possible when it comes to computers), so as the mantra on this site often goes: buy once, cry one. As my computer started getting in the way of my college work, I started looking at my upgrade options. The M1s were on their way, so I waited a few more months until they came out, spec'd one out with enough RAM, hard drive space, and video processing to future proof it at least for several years, and I'm able to come back. I don't want to make claims that this computer is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's quite the upgrade from my last machine.
Anyways, I just wanted to let someone know that the site crashes older computers. I fixed the problem on my end (new computer), but there could be others forced into hiatus also.
