Look at this P bass....

My favorite part of the description is the "original cigarette burns" as if it came from the factory that way. If it's worth it to someone, more power to them. Maybe if it shipped with a Jerry Garcia cryogenically frozen sperm sample or something, now then you'd have something to bargain with.

It's almost laughable when some dealers get their hands on an old guitar, they think they just found the Ark Of The Covenant. Even if that bass still had all its original parts, it wouldn't bring that much money. I guess dropping Jerry Garcia's name trebles the value? lol

The body is alder, not ash. That is not the correct case either, not even close.

9.53lbs.....It wouldn't weigh that much if it didn't have that heavy after-market brass pickguard and the BA bridge.

That's the bass that was played at one of the first live shows I ever saw... Pretty cool... Of course the guitar next to it went for a CONSIDERABLY larger sum.

I'm usually the last person to be about a bass like this, but this thing is so fubar its charming. I think the fact that it was owned by a hard rocking dude who didn't give a fudge about what his bass looked like (or the tuners) that got to plant a P bass at least somewhere in the Dead epic (kinda like a photo bomb amongst the Alembics, J's and Guilds). Cool story. TB needs more stories.

It just occurred to me why it's priced so high. $17K is the "we don't really wanna sell it" price.

They're a brick 'n mortar store. Having vintage guitars on display in your music store brings in a lot of foot traffic. Good for business all around.

Even so, they don't know what they're talking about concerning this particular bass.

View attachment 894218 Same year, plenty of mojo, all original(no mods), MUCH, MUCH less expensive. Covers are in the original case. Not for sale.

"Much, much less expensive" and "Not for sale"

I know what you meant, but if you think about what you said, it doesn't really make sense, it's only $10 but I'm not selling it! So, if you're not selling it, it doesn't have a price, which makes it, by default, priceless.

When no-one is selling the good ones, then the rest become higher and higher priced... or apparently, if they have a story.
