Looking at 2 different Ampeg cabinets.

The 2 that I am looking at are the SVT-610HLF and the SVT-410HLF it appears the only differences are the number of speakers and the 610 puts out 100 more watts. Does anyone have any experience with either of these cabinets? I am also looking at pairing them with the SVT 4 Pro head. Any advice or comments on this head would be appreciated! I currently have a Crate 2BXE cabinet with the Crate 440 head.

I just sold my 410HLF to finance the 610HLF I recently bought (both US made).

Both great cabs, but I would get the 610 if you're gonna get the 4 Pro.

I honestly think the 610 is easier to move around too. It doesn't weigh that much more and it's easier to wheel around without having to slump over. I would have originally bought the 610 if I had a vehicle that could have fit it at the time - now I do and I'm so much happier that I got the cab I originally wanted.

I have the 810E (Monster) , the 410hlf gives a super bass sound and is a tank. Unless I get a job playing a large venue, the 810 is staying put. Now the only ampeg cab I don't have is the 610hlf which is priced the same as the 810E for a very good reason.....sound ! This 610 cab is currently on my wish list and I'm thinking of getting it in the near future. I also have the 4pro head which will drive any of these (all 4ohm's, right?) . The other members of this forum know these cabs better than I do so take what is said seriously. Bottom line is these are all heavy duty cabs and when you pull the trigger($$$) you 'll be set !!!!!:)

I own the SVT-410HLF, and had use of an SVT-610HLF for over a month when my Mesa PH 610 was in for warranty work... IME, the SVT-610HLF is one of the worst 610s on the market... I *was* considering trading my PH 610 for that SVT-610HLF, only because it was lighter, and taller - therefor, easier to load into my truck than the Mesa... only problem was, the Ampeg 610 couldn't do the same job as my Mesa - it would fart out at much lower levels... I really felt that if I went that way, I'd be blowing drivers in the Ampeg in no time...

FWIW, I've been able to get the same job done with the PH 610, SVT-410HLF, SVT810e, Goliath Sr, and Peavey 215D-BW(KappaLFA loaded) - without stressing the drivers any... If you like lots of low end, DON'T get the Ampeg 610 - because it won't put out alot of lows... I can honestly say that if someone offered me an even trade right now - my SVT-410HLF(Nampeg) for a US SVT-610HLF, I would turn it down...

IMO, the 610HLF *tries* to be a compromise between their 410 and 810 - but fails all the way around: it lacks the physical size to be a ported 610...

YMMV, but those are my opinions/experiences...

I like the 610hlf, I went from a Mesa powerhouse 410 to the 610hlf, both rated at 600w with the Mesa costing a little bit more and I find the 610 has more better tone and more room filling volume, well I guess it would since it has 2 extra speakers but my band (that I recently left) does play very loud. The tone is great, I'm using a jazz with a pick and it has old rounds through a VT bass and a 1001rb-II.

To Georgestrings, I agree that the cab is mostly voiced for mids but mine doesn't fart out and I can comfortably put over half the power of a 1001rbII through it and I use a rumbly tone, sometimes due to the midrangly nature of the cab it will put a lot of emphasis on any distortion, string rattle so it can seem like something might be wrong - as a few have said here in the forum the 610 can handle a ton of clean power. It can take everything a B4R can throw at it. In the last days of my recent band I was on the verge of needing a 810 due to the sheer volume but the 610 could be heard - however the cab seems louder in some parts of the room and less loud in other parts.

Downtuning sounds great with the cab - it had this very nice fat whomping tone going on - well I suspect that it just likes low freqs due to it's tuning.

On a final note, the 610 seems like a fussy cab, I think it sounds best with Ampeg amp tones a lot more than other amps. Thats why I use a VT bass, I've also tried it with other amps including a SVT-IIpro and a B4R as well.

I have not played the 610, but the 410HLF works great with SVT4Pro.

I have had the 410HLF (Vietnamese actually) for about 1,5 years now, but I do not own the 4Pro - I have played them together on a couple of gigs though.

My 410HLF is my favorite cab so far of the ones I have played. Works great with 5-string Stingray and Bassdriver.

having owned both (and still have the 610HLF and an 810AV), i would say its kind of a toss up. and i like the sound of both cabs.

1. i think that the 410HLF had more lows and in a way, more clarity
2.the 610HLF has more mids and a little less subs
3.the 410HLF was harder to move around (towel bar is too low) so the 610HLF is easier for me to transport.
4. the 610HLF being taller is also a bit easier to hear on stage since its closer to ear level

yes it is. hell, my ancient svt 810 from 73 sounds great with a 5 string. you don't hear the low notes from those low freqs anyway. you hear them mostly from the 2nd harmonic. and yes, there are charts that prove it on here ;)
