Looking for a 5 stringer around 1500-2500$.

Just suggestion; check with valentibasses.com, I am sure with less than 2500 you can get nice bass with nice top as well.

Nino doesn't offer 24 frets (I asked when I recently ordered a bass from him). I recommend you look at the Human Base BaseX.oc5. Passive/active, coil tap, treble control acts as tone knob in passive mode, 24 frets, outstanding quality, very versitile. Only reason mine is up for sale is I don't ever play fivers.

Of the 2 Sadowsky 5 string basses I've had - brief as it was - I think the M5-24 was my favorite. Didn't care for the MV5 as much.

If you are OK with 35" scale (I have difficulties with that) a Lakland 55-02 or 55-94 would be really nice.

Back to 34" scale you also have a Music Man Stingray. I have a Yamaha BB605 34" that I can't seem to get away from that is a really nice bass.

With a budget of $1,000 to $2,500 you have a wide variety to choose from.

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted in a while, been playing on a cruise ship overseas for the last 6 months. For the last year or so, I really haven't looked at my gear because I just hadn't any money to spend on basses.

I've been playing a fender P-bass for the last year and a half and even though I really like it, I'm looking for something new. I've played and owned 5 strings and 6 strings before and I'd like the next bass to be a 5 strings, passive and have 24 frets. Those are really the three main things I'm looking for.

I like jazz basses and the sound of modern players such as Janek Gwizdala, Hadrien Feraud, Tony Grey, etc. This is the most money I've ever spent on a bass so I want something versatile too so whenever the pop/rock gig comes along, the bass will fit in the genre. I live in Montreal so I'm limited as far as brands that I can try locally.

Anyway, any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Try a Peavey Cirrus USA 5. They have active electronics with passive PU's which gives you the moderate boost with awesome clarity without the finger-slide buzz. 24 frets and great access all the way up.

I can't say enough good things about FBass.
I have a BN5 and it's by far the best bass (for my taste of course) that I've owned.
It's Canadian made and should be accessible for you. You can definitely pick one up in your price range. Try one out!

Big +1 for Dingwall, an ABI, ABZ or Combustion is in your price range and as far as 5 strings are concerned let's just say since I bought my ABI last year I have sold my Fender Jazz, Lakland 55-02, Sadowsky Metro and will be selling my Bongo 5 to fund at least one more Dingwall this year. It is incredible to play and the tone is fantastic, especially the B string.
Good luck!
