Looking for a gated fuzz.

Looking for a gated fuzz in a 1590a size box to go with an OC-2 clone and envelope filter to get some synth tones going. Not looking for muff style. Need something gated with no feedback or resonance for staccato funk style synth lines.

+1 for the Mastotron. It's a monster and the gating gets insanely tight. You can even adjust the input impedance for even more extremity or just to handle active basses. I actually run it in parallel with an Okto Nojs to get 2 quite different fuzz voices in parallel with the octaver. Back the gating off and you have a really awesome regular fuzz too, with the option of truly massive subs.

For something cheap you could try the Mooer Fog bass fuzz. I use one for a couple of muse tracks. Does the job without breaking the bank.

The Mastotron if placed vertically occupies the same space in your board as a small 1590a sized box with side jacks, and has more options than a fuzzolo.

I could not get that thing to play nice with all of my basses. It really didn't like active basses for some reason. I imagine the input impedance has a very tight optimal range. It sounded alright with my P Bass and T-40s, though.

Funnily enough I had a similar issue using it with my ms60b with compression in line. With an analogue compressor, no issues at all.

Based on the endorsements, gonna have to check out the Mastrotron. Haven’t messed with that yet. I was going to recommend the Wooly Mammoth or if you can find one (or a clone) a Chunk Brown Dog.

I use a mastotron when I want to get really dirty or synthy sounding. It has a wide array of sounds. I got mine because the woolly mammoth was a bit out of my price range. Very happy with it.

I built a wooly mammoth clone and implemented the input impadence knob first in the circuit which kinda became the mastotron. It's sick before my oc2.

Brown Dog has a great sound. Just really hard to find. I brought home the Fuzzolo today and I really like it. Don't know if I'd like the Mastotron better but the Fuzzolo gets pretty close. I don't have the OC-2 clone in hand yet but I am hoping the combo gets me where I want to be.
