Looking for a good A/E bass.

Does anyone know of a good acoustic/electric or hollowbody that picks up percussive hits on the body? I would like to have the ability to get good percussive sounds out of my bass. I currently play a Takamine G series acoustic, but it's not so great at that. I'm well aware that well made acoustic basses are hard to come by.

What I would really enjoy is something akin to the Taylor T5 electric/acoustic guitar. I've seen a few basses that seem to resemble it (i.e. Godin A5, Kinal Kompact, etc.), but I can never find any demos where they use the body percussively. However, a good acoustic would fit the bill perfectly as well. Something like a warwick alien, wechter, etc. Just something that picks up the body sound well, and sounds good plugged in.

Any thoughts, comments or suggestions would be appreciated!! Two of my favorite artists are Hellborg and Miyavi (guitarist, but he plays like a bassist for sure). I'm new to the TB forums but I've always always checked them out for answers to a lot of my bass questions; very resourceful place indeed!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:: Should also probably mention that 5 strings would be cool! I like my Hi-C! I'm also a fan of 30-32" SS basses (which is why the kompact looked appealing).

The Taylor is a great bass, but you may want to look for a Tacoma. The sound hole position of the Tacoma is easier for the player to "hear" than the Taylor. I have owned several acoustic electrics from Guild, Martin, and Ovation, but from a tonal percussive aspect, I would try to see if you can find a Tacoma to test drive. Good luck.
