looking for a good P&J, originally was gonna go for a 5'er or a EBMM but decided i want something for both considering i play metal, funk, jazz. i look at lakland alot, also fender's but not sure what exactly to look for. what are some recommendations that TB has for a a fellow Bassist in need of help???

looking for a good P/J

I'd vote for a Fender Jazz Bass Special, Made in Japan in the late 80's. You can find them for 1/2 your price range and they play and sound great, especially if you upgrade the pickups.
I have been doing quite a bit of research on P/J's lately and actually just placed the order for a Fender Tony Franklin fretted bass.
Jonathan at Sweetwater gave me a pretty good deal, so after the discount it gets pretty close to your price range.
