If you like Ampeg, I have the SVT212 AV and it kicks hard. It was designed to sound like a SVT8x10 so it can do that 70's wooly sound you're after. You can totally find a used Ampeg 212 and a V4B tube head for about $1500. There's a weight trade off, but you get the real tube tone you're after within your budget.

Lugging around a V4B is no way to reduce your carry. Ask me how I know.

I get that. Just a suggestion based on the tone quest. Some are willing to sacrifice a little weight for some tubes. You know what I dislike way more than weight? My guitarist's Marshall tube head riding in the backseat of the vehicle with the damn spring reverb rattling for 400 miles. At least the V4B doesnt have a spring reverb

That’s personal preference, but the Quilter is 800 watts into 4 ohms and 500 into 8.

I have the Quilter and it’s a great amp and it has a switch so it can get a modern and a warm tone, but definitely keep the Aggie unless you want a different sound or need the extra power. If you go to the Barefaced 10’s, you’ll probably need the extra power.

At a total budget of $1500, your bang for the buck is likely to be in the used market, I should think.
A GB Streamliner 900 is incredibly warm with a tube pre, one of my faves of all time. They are repairable (@agedhorse may need to verify this)
Push plenty of power, and with a pedal of your choice should be furry as you like. There are a number of other used digital switching amps with great power:
- Mesa Subway family (my D800 is a
decade in and totally awesome)
- GK
- GenzBenz
- Genzler
You can go trickfish or some of the other great names out there, these are just personal
faves.

This puts you into a head for $500-750, leaving you $750-1000 for a cabinet, which you will need most every bit of for a lightweight, high-wattage, 2x12 cab, which would be my suggestion.
- GK Neo4 2x12 (I use a pair of the
1x12’s, adore them)
- Subway 2x12 (as noted above, used
if you can find one)
- RevSound should be on your radar
for lightweight and loud
- Schroeder cabs can be cost
effective and lightweight, have a
loyal user base

Try out dirt pedals until you find what really nails the Sabbath/Melvins flavor for you!

+1 Schroeder cabs. I have two 112PL’s and they are fantastic. Going on 10 years, never wanted anything else or more. I use them with either a Mesa 800D or Aggie TH500.
